Coach Jon Clark announced before the Eagles' final regular season game that he would be stepping down as head football coach at Mad South at the season's end. Clark has been the head coach for the Eagles since 2011.

Who are the likely candidates to succeed Coach Clark at Madison Southern?

 

 

Defensive coordinator at Madison Central, Blair is their top choice.  Not sure he would take it.  In line to take over for Holcomb at Madison Central in a few years.  

Heard a possible BIG name today.  Might get interesting. 

Clay Clevenger was a name that was brought up. But again he’s been linked to every open job ???. 

That wasn't the name I heard.  To be honest I really think he ends up back at Danville.

This past season aside, Coach Clark sure seemed to have a lot of success there. 5A quarterfinals x2 and a trip to the 5A state finals in the last five seasons sure isn't anything to turn your nose up at.

He did a good job.  But it is a tough one.  He is the only coach in school history to really have any measurable success there. 

Sounds like their #1 choice turned them down.  They could still get a really good coach.  The talent level is down significantly from a few years ago.

The demographics of Madison Southern changed a great deal during the eleven years Jon Clark was there. In the first couple of decades (90s/00s), Southern was a very rural school, large AA/small AAA in the old system. Now they are a good sized 5A school with different enrollment options that weren't there in the beginning. It is hard to compare the program pre- and post-Clark.

My guess is probably William Blair, who's name has been mentioned at both Madison Southern and his alma mater Rockcastle County.

I've heard Blair is happy where he is at.

Yes.  He's probably in line to be head coach there in a few years. 

Probably with being in line is, what if the administration changes? Central doesn’t keep principals for very long. So if he is suppose to be the next coach and the administration changes before the head coach....what happens then?
