Gabby Petito/Brian Laundrie

I was shocked to see that this wasn't an ongoing thread already. What a rollercoaster and mess this story has been. I can't imagine the pain and anguish that the Petito family must be feeling. I also can't imagine the toll it must be taking on the Laundrie family. I firmly believe they helped their son plan an escape, and I understand everyone upset over that, but until you are face to face with that situation you never know what you would do. We do crazy things when our children are in trouble/danger.

It looks like today the medical examiner has been brought to the nature preserve where Brian Laundrie was expected to be most of this time. They found items belonging to him and now there is a cadaver dog canvassing the area, and his parents are present.

One last side note. Dog the Bounty Hunter had all kinds of claims of Brian being miles away from the preserve on an island. I hope those were actual beliefs and he didn't simply use this case to get money/name recognition.

Horribly sad story and I was turned off by Dog getting involved.

I am watching the news too and it appears this saga may be coming to an end.

As I read further, this may be yet another bizarre twist. It looks like the parents were not called in, but decided to go to this area today and met local search teams or law enforcement there. Then they found the articles belonging to him.

You mean to tell me his parents just up and decided to go to a certain location today and then they just happened to find items belonging to him after over a month canvassing the area?

Color me a skeptic.

Given your extensive knowledge of law and the justice system, how "legit" is Dog?

I am not informed enough on Dog to say.  I assume he is pretty good in some areas but in a case like this I question whether he was in a real position to help or just getting involved for whatever reasons.

Agree with all of the above.  I was also upset when the press seemed to criticize the officers who intervened when there was a domestic dispute between the couple.  I really think those officers tried to give Gabby a way out, but she declined any help.  Those officers do not have a crystal ball.  They might have been concerned that things would escalate but can only do so much.

i definitely think his family knows more than they are saying.

I interview abused women often in my line of work, but can never understand why any man/woman would stay in that situation. I am very thankful to have been raised by a very strong mother who taught her girls to not take any guff from anybody.

So according to the family's attorney, the Brian Laundrie's parents called and told him (the family attorney) that they were going to go search the Myakkahatchee Creek Environmental Park, where it has been widely suspected that Brian may have been hiding out. The parents were headed there because this was the first day the park was reopened to the public after it was closed for extensive searching by FBI and other law enforcement. After the parents called their attorney, the attorney "decided it would be wise" to notify local law enforcement that the Laundries would be at the preserve, and law enforcement decided in turn to accompany the Laundries to the nature preserve.

News cameras followed, and the Brian's parents headed immediately to search an area that had previously been under water. While searching that area, and apparently just out of camera-view, but not far enough away to prevent a news camera from seeing Mr. Laundrie notifying his law enforcement escorts, Brian's dad "happened" to be the person that found a dry-bag containing personal belongings of Brian.

Since then, the FBI has confirmed that there were what appear to be human remains found by the dry bag.

Curious. Very curious.
