December 27, 200619 yr Title should read Buckeye. Maybe a mod can change it, please Ohio State players Antonio Pittman and Chris Wells may have violated NCAA rules when they attended a fund raiser to help raise money for their family to attend the Championship Bowl game. Both players left before the event was completed. Pittmans mother phoned one of the Buckeye assistant coaches and informed them they were at the dinner and was told by the assistant that the NCAA didn't allow fund raisers for families of football players. The money raised was donated by the families to a local little league football team. Ohio State immediately notified the NCAA of the players attending the fund raiser. I am sure we will hear more. Who wants to go first?
December 27, 200619 yr Oh boy! O$U is going to make it interesting! How dumb can you be? Fundraising for your family? That's not rocket science!
December 27, 200619 yr The best part is the call AFTER the "fund raiser". Might want to do that first next time...
December 27, 200619 yr Just keeping the compliance office employed I guess... talk about a position with job security...
December 27, 200619 yr Good move by making the phone call to the rules / compliance office early by Ohio State. Stupid move by the players in violation:irked: . No question about it. Rules are rules no matter how slight or which one you break. No excuses or "this rule is not as bad as that rule" way of thinking from this Ohio State football fan. GO BUCKEYES!!!!!!!!!! Beat gators.
December 27, 200619 yr Author It is my understanding that the community and the parents of the players involved organized the event. The players were called by the parents and asked to attend. There were two other players invited but they did not attend. As a college player you have to know the rules and I am sure they have heard all the do's and dont's. If there was any doubt in their minds, a simple phone call to the coaching staff would eliminate any doubt. I give credit to the people at Ohio State for making the call to report the incident. It was a bad decision on the part of the players involved but also some blame has to be placed on the parents who organized the event. As a parent with a son playing college football they should also be aware of the rules of what can and can not be done. Bad decision by all parties involved.
December 27, 200619 yr OK Buck fans, if these guys are suspended for the BCS game how bad will it hurt? I'm betting that Tressel doesn't do a thing. I wonder if you got a photo op or a autograph for your donation? If so there is a pretty nasty precedent.

If they are suspended the Buckeyes will be hurt but at the same time it will open up a chance for someone else to step up and prove they have talent also. I think that Tressel will do whatever the NCAA and the University recommend. We need to get all the facts before making an assumption of what has taken place. It is my understanding there was no asking for a donation. It was a dinner where tickets were purchased at the door. It has not been stated that any photo ops or autograph session took place. The players involved left the dinner a few minutes after their arrival. I will wait until all the correct info is made public before I jump to conclusions.
December 27, 200619 yr If Pittman were suspended, it would be more than 'oh well, someone else will step up.' I don't think much of Florida's chances, but they do have speed on defense, and a power back like Pittman would be important for tO$U.

December 27, 200619 yr Author If the NCAA doesn't suspend then why should Tressel? Great point!!:thumb: To some it doesn't matter as why. It is only an issue to them because it involved The Ohio State University.
