I just read in The Daily Independent that the David School has informed Allen Central that it will not honor its contract for a January 19, 2007 game because Allen Central is called the "Rebels" and sometimes displays a Confederate flag.

 

Some will find a lot of merit in the action. However, since both are located in Floyd County and since Allen Central is rather well known around those parts, I would have thought that, if the motivation were pure, the game would not have been scheduled in the first place.

 

Adding to the "intrigue" is the fact that the AD and coach of The David School is Ned Pillersdorf. Pillersdorf is a well known leftwing attorney who has made a reputation from being active in civil rights, civil liberties, and related causes operating from the liberal point of view.

 

If nothing else, a forfeit and payment for breach of contract may be better for The David School than would be another humiliating encounter on the playing floor. Plus, look at the publicity. The AP has already picked up the story. Can Larry King and Oprah be far behind?

Pillersdorf was also the one who represented Eddie Baker during his big trial. For those who don't know Baker, he was a fugitive, hiding because he was wanted for big time drug trafficing and was recently sentenced so many years in prison for it.

Of course it is a relevant piece of information. It is indicitive of Pillersdorf's agenda. If you don't think this was a setup, then why, pray tell, was the game scheduled in the first place. Both are in Floyd County so Allen County's nickname was no secret to anyone. As I said earlier, the AP has picked it up so the goal has been reached.

I'm wondering what the KHSAA's stance will be. I presume, unless AC lets David out of the contract, the game will result in a forfeit.

 

From the article, it may be after the scheduled game is to be played, before the KHSAA can discuss or reach a decision on the request.

 

Not to sound cold-hearted but I've heard and visually seen at many, many games, various forms of comments, signs, gestures directed toward players, coaches and fans. Most are not what any player would like to hear, regardless of race.

They played last seson. If there was trouble, WHY was it scheduled this season. It makes no sense to me. Don't get me wrong I am against racism as much as anyone, but if there was problems last year why are we just now hearing about it.

While I would prefer for myself not to be judgemental of a man (Pillersdorf) that I have never heard of, I do agree with you that this probably was some kind of set-up.

 

But I don't understand how his relations with a drug trafficker is related. I doubt he supports drug trafficking (as I took post 16 to infer).

Let's all look at the available facts and the parties involved. This is strictly a stunt for publicity. I would hope that Allen Central takes a hard line. AC is not a villain in this matter. TDS, through its handlers, is trying to make itself a victim with all the media publicity that goes with the distinction.

 

If there were a scintilla of proof that the complaint is honest and principled, I might find some merit with it. However, there is none.

We played AC in football several years ago, and they have the confederate flag in the tile in the entry way of the school. It kinda of surprised us and our team is close to 45% African American.It did bother some of our players,however I don't remember any racial trash talking taking place as does happen against some of our opponents.I too get tired of all the political correctness,but if the display of the confederate flag doesn't offend you just a little it should.Don't see it as a left wing issue,but a 2006 issue.

Even if they have and even if the guy has an agenda, it doesn't make it any less relevant or less of an issue? Its never too late to correct what you perceive as a problem.

There are somethings in our history, that we should simply not be proud to call our heritage. Although, if there's no malicious intent I kind of don't feel anyone has the constitutional right to say that the school can't display the confederate flag, regardless of what offense it may mean to others.

 

HOWEVER....given that we are in the age where offensive nicknames and symbols are being removed all the time, such as in the case of Indian names, etc...I feel this falls in the same category.

 

For me, I don't buy that the Rebels MUST use the confederate flag as a symbol. The fact that the flag itself was used for so many negative purposes to display racism and support bigotry is history enough to discontinue it's use.

 

Again, a lot depends upon the intent of it's use during games.

 

But, as a whole, I find that while there may be no malicious intent, it's at least distasteful.

 

But, I live in a different environment than these schools. So, what may work in their area of the state, may not work in mine.

I have been to a couple AC games and honestly can't remember seeing the flag being waved and we did have an african american playing on our team, but that was a couple of years ago.

Much ado about nothing from TDS's standpoint but, in this touchy-feely, make everyone happy, offend no one even with the truth world, I look for AC to get shafted in this needless drama.

 

Wouldn't our founding fathers, and mothers, be proud? The whole country is slipping to you know where but, at least, we intend to insure that everyone will feel good about themselves on the trip down.
