Highlands hires Chris Norris

Featured Replies

Finally!!!

Highlands adds another experienced coach to the Birds nest.

31 years of coaching experience with most recently in charge of the Boone County boys program.

Looks to me like a solid hire.

Now let’s see if there is any collateral damage for the school waiting this long to make the hire.

Rumor mill is a brewing that some players might have decided to go club in the fall with the uncertainty of who was coming on board as the new coach.....

I am just happy that this phase is over and we can move forward to getting these girls thinking one thing.....WIN!

So how old is this guy?  I was told he was in his 40’s and yet he has 31 years of coaching experience?  Interesting about the club route considering the parents seem to be running the show so why the concern about the next coach?  Not sure these parents will ever be happy if three straight region titles and finals appearance were not good enough for the previous staff.

I am just ready to move forward and stop dwelling on the past.

I don’t know who might be leaving and doing the club route, until those names come out I can’t say if that is a good thing or bad.

Just excited that we finally have someone in the role to get these girls moving in the same direction.

Looks like he graduated from Cov Latin in 1994

NKU in 1999

So yes he probably is in mid 40’s.....

I am guessing he probably did some youth coaching when he was a teenager.....which I see a lot going on.....

If my math is right (assuming he graduated at 16 from Latin), he's around 43 years old meaning he's been coaching since he was 12.

Sounds about right!  Glad we got someone with a ton of experience and Head Coaching experience.

Can’t wait to get started!!!

Chris is a good good dude. Graduated a year after my brother from CLS. I believe he's 43 or 44.

Positive momentum! I love your positivity; it is refreshing.

I honestly do not know much about Coach Norris but it is awesome that the girls program has a leader in place; the girls deserve it!

I have heard rumblings of a couple players opting to focus on their club team rather than the high school team. Hopefully, that won't be the case, but I think we can both agree that there is more than enough talent at HHS even if a few opt to focus on club for Coach Norris to be very successful!

Go Birds!

Congrats to Highlands on an outstanding hire!

Chris is a tremendous coach and a class act all the way around. Never met a soul who doesn't think the world of him...and that's rare these days. Home run hire by Highlands AD/admin. While I, too, worry for the mental sanity of anyone who takes this job....if the parents run this guy out of Ft. Thomas, they should shutter the program.

Will be rooting for the Birds program this season!

Great!  Glad to hear that this was a solid choice!

Sounds like this administration is hitting Home Runs left and right with these hires lately.

I am looking forward to a great season.

Meet and greet with Coach Norris was tonight.

A lot of positive energy, hungry to finish the job on getting that ring!

And yes he explained how even at 43 years of age he has 31 yrs of coaching. Started coaching at age 12 a bunch of U5/U8 year olds....

GO BIRDS!

I am assuming that with Dead Period over tryouts/practices have started. Any updates or news?

Today was first day of voluntary practice (tryouts officially start Thu). Not reading to much yet into it but Varsity players from last year missing today apparently were: Gessner who would be the returning GK, Harris, and Hedenberg. I guess we will see later this week if those are permanent absences or excused. I personally dont know. Gessner will be a program killer if she isnt coming back. Hope she shows up.  Like I said its Mon, stay tuned for update on Fri.

Thanks for the update. I know what you mean about Gessner, but I don't know if I would go as far as to say it would kill the program; no one player is bigger than any program, plus there is an abundance of talent in girls soccer at HHS... someone would step up. Hopefully, it isn't an issue and she plays! You only get one chance at high school sports!
