What's Tubby's gameplan for Ramon Harris? I know Tubby is a master talent scout, but even he couldn't really get a good evaluation of Harris in 40 seconds of game play could he? Anyone know anything?

You saw that in 40 seconds? The only thing I saw was an ability to run without falling and check in and check out of the game with no problems.

Harris, a 6-foot-5 player from Anchorage, Alaska, came into the game with exactly nine minutes left in the first half. He returned to the bench at the 8:13 mark and did not return.

 

Smith called playing Harris a "spur-of-the-moment" decision. Harris became eligible and began practicing with the team on Friday.

 

"I put him at (small forward) and he really hasn't worked at the wing," Smith said. "I just wanted him to get a feel here in Rupp Arena.

 

"We ran a couple things. He didn't really know what to do, so we got him back out."

 

When asked what he thought of Harris' cameo role, Crawford said, "Anything's possible here."

 

 

I agree that it is odd, to say the least, to put a player in the game at a position he hasn't practiced at and expect production. I'm a Tubby fan, but this confuses me.

Is it still possible to redshirt?

Those "great announcers" we had last night said that he could play for a limited time and still red-shirt this season. I don't really understand that, but I guess Tubby knows what he is doing. After all, we've had him 10 years.

There is a percentage of games that he is allowed to playin. UK can use that percentage to evaluate him and then decide to redshirt him if they wish. I have no idea what the percentage is or anything like that.

 

UK didn't seem to do much of anything besides play pickup ball last night anyways, so they might as well have let him play a few minutes.

I can't see him getting much PT this year...Tubby has never been much of one to play freshmen unless he has no alternative. Add to that the fact that he didn't join the team until almost Christmas...forget about Ramon Harris this year. If he was good enough to make a huge impact, we would have heard much more about it...and he probably wouldn't be at UK...:lol: :devil:

I figured it was something basically saying "He isnt redshirting." UK could use a couple of blowouts to get a look at Harris to see if he can help the team. I do not think you can redshirt a kid after he has participated in a game during the season. If there was some deal with the percentage of games you can use a kid, every team in the nation would do that, but they never do. That only applies to medical redshirts, as if he had something wrong with him.

One reason Harris didn't see the floor that much was that we didn't exactly blow Santa Clara away like everyone presumed we would. If the game would have been in UK's hands with a 25+ lead, then we see a lot more of Harris IMO.

I don't see what the big deal is. He saw a chance to get him in. He then realized he had no clue what he was doing and took him out. The kid may not play much this season.
