December 20, 200619 yr ....:thumb: I love Baseball and enjoy any college sport also. I agree, on the discussion comment. I've been critical on threads, of Brooks and Archer of their schemes, of the Reds not having starting pitching but its more of a concept, an observation rather than some diagnosing each pass, shot, rebound, turnover, etc....if a person watches a basketball game and gets caught in looking to find something negative, it will consume them and eventually lead to "negative criticism". Excellent point on the cuts and speed of the game. UK can make some adjustments on spacing, kicking out off of dribble penetration and players rubbing off screens, which would lead to open shots, better production and efficiency. Laying the groundwork for the defense, appears to be Coach Smith's focus and that will improve also. I agree with Wireman's comment about Obrzut, that he's playing better and he could provide a much needed lift, at both ends of the floor, if he can continue to give this kind of effort. :thumb: :thumb: Once again S3 I agree with all points that you made here. This years Wildcat team has some VERY good freshman that are and will have to play key roles this season for any sucsess that we have. I especially agree with your comment about all the "negative", imo negativity breeds negativity. Bottom line is that we are 8-3 and two of the three losses were to the #1 and #2 ranked teams (at that time) I belive in UCLA and UNC, the other loss was to a very good Memphis team. The Cats have beaten the teams that they were supposed to beat and imo by seasons end will be beating teams that are ranked higher. GO BIG BLUE!!!! :flame:
December 20, 200619 yr I don't recall that ever not being a priority with Tubby. :thumb: Offense sells the tickets but DEFENSE wins the game.
December 20, 200619 yr :thumb: Offense sells the tickets but DEFENSE wins the game. But offense cannot be a handicap the defense has to overcome.
December 20, 200619 yr Go Gators:devil:  I would respond with "Go USC" but I really hope that the team up north wins that one. Shows you how much I dislike USC. Actually Wireman, when Bo Schembechler was at the helm there I actually pulled for them whenever they were not playing my Buckeyes, I loved his style and way of coaching. (thats the only compliment that I can give Mich. now. )

December 20, 200619 yr But offense cannot be a handicap the defense has to overcome. :thumb: I understand what you are saying, you have to have both - I am just a defensive minded fan. Most love to see all the offense but I love to see great defense and rebounding. To me anyway that is what wins games.

Shooting, you can be hot one game and cold the next but good effort on defense and stopping the opponent can be a consistent each and every game.

Which UK does defensively and I believe they will get more consistent, on the offensive end. 5Wide has a good point, that it seems some have to mentally think about their assignment, rather than letting their basketball ability and IQ, take over in certain situations....a result of youth.

I like what Morehead State coach Donnie Tyndall had to say a few weeks ago on the radio. He said: I'm not the greatest coach in division I basketball. I know that. We don't have the best talent in the country. Our team realizes that. The only thing that we have control over is how hard we prepare and play. That is what we try to do is maximize our effort and outwork all the teams we play. I think that is a good philosophy at any level. That is a big reason why MSU is 5-4 already this season after finishing 4-25 last season.
December 20, 200619 yr :thumb: Offense sells the tickets but DEFENSE wins the game. I don't disagree. I just don't understand why we can't have both. Don't mistake that as a call for super fastbreak basketball...just a better, more fluid and more consistent offensive effort...and much less of that dribbling the ball for 30 seconds, standing around and getting off a bad shot (maybe, or turnover with this team) before time expires that I have personally seen far too much of at UK recently.
December 20, 200619 yr On a sidenote: Isn't it nice to discuss UK basketball without people calling for Tubby to be fired for whatever reason and really discuss the team and basketball. As S3 loves to discuss baseball, I am that way with basketball. :thumb: "The Lion shall lie down with the lamb and Peace shall fill the earth"
December 20, 200619 yr I just want to make the comment that I have enjoyed reading this thread. It is the 1st one(in UK Basketball) I have read completely thru since the season has started. No bashing going on just fans talk about the game and what they think are players issues on the floor. This is what the thread should be about. I have been so disappointed with the College forum for the last 2 season that I thought about not renewing my subscription. I probably would have if it had not been for the high school forums. Hey guys keep up the good work. I have also noticed that there has not been any other fans from some of those other teams on here stiring the pot. When those teams are losing it is hard to stir the pot.
December 20, 200619 yr I just noticed that Santa Clara is ranked number 19 on the Mid-Major Top 25 poll. Any team in that poll is a threat in my book.

Any team in that poll is a threat in my book.Do you have a link to that poll, someone mentioned earlier about Mid-Major rankings and I would like to follow those. Also, did I hear one of the announcers talking about one of the Santa Clara players, was a transfer from WKU....I believe may have been the big man, did anyone else hear that?
