Ballou's Parker seemed to never miss. Rose Hill kept a man on him in the second half and limited his output. But when he was open, he was dead on.

 

The end of the game was a thriller for those that did not attend. Rose Hill was down 6 and began fouling to stop the clock. After Ballou's missed free throw, Euton came down for a quick three. A couple more possessions commence and Rose Hill was down two. Jackson drove to the hoop and tied the game with 1:01 remaining. Time out Ballou. On the in-bounds, Ballou tried to "hail mary" a pass down the court, but the ball hit the ceiling - Rose Hill's ball. Rose Hill turned the ball over on the in-bounds, and Ballou was driving when their guard was called for carrying the ball. Rose Hill comes down the floor and almost turns the ball over again, but they found Chad Jackson under the hoop for a quick two points. Ballou drove the floor in the last 10 seconds (all timeouts were gone with 1:01 left) and created contact on a missed shot. With 0.3 seconds remaining, the Ballou player missed the front end of his two free throws. He purposedly missed the second and Euton got the rebound - ball game.

Sounds like a great h.s. basketball game and good coaching job by Fraley( in fouling to stop the clock). That move reminds me of Jimmy Valvano on his NC run with N.C. State in the NCAA tourney. Valvano was a master at that.

I agree, I'd much prefer to drop to a consolation game. They don't have but 2 kids on the team old enough to drive and they've won a game in the KOBG. I don't think facing Ballard will "traumatize" the young Royals. What do they have to lose?

The simple fact is this, the team that Jackson and Euton play AAU on had a kid from Ballard. And frankly, I watched that team lose summer before last against a team from Orlando that would walk through the 16th region and more than likely spank Ballard. The beauty of that kind of competition is that you can't consistently send someone out to face them that will overwhelm them. So, I doubt seriously that they are quaking in their wife beaters as they lounge around the Holidome in Louisville this evening worried about their impending doom. And in the event Ballard wins by 30, so what? I remember a couple of years back when Ballard got beat by a Rose Hill team. They also had a few good young players!

:thumb: I agree, a team only gets better by playing good and better teams. This tourney is a highly regarded h.s. b.b. tourney and everyone in it is very good.

Here's a stat for you. Euton took an unreal number of shots, 38 shots is what we counted to net 36 points.

 

The majority of folks here believes Jackson has the greater potential between the two.

How did you get around and talk to the majority of the folks and count all those shots. Your right Jackson is going to be a great player, but so is Euton. He is a freshmen averaging 30 points a game at the varsity level. The last time I remember you had to shoot alot to score alot. I would bet his field goal % is as good as any in the state for someone averaging 30.I know one game this year he was 12 for 14. Give credit where credit is do. l'll take both of them anytime, anyday. Euton drew a lot of attention from Ballou's interior players, ultimately leading one to foul out, and two to finish the game with three fouls each. As a result, he was 17/19 from the charity stripe for 89.5%.

 

I'm not sure what the point is, but I certainly wouldn't say that Euton disappointed anyone... except for the "experts" who continually bash him.

Coming into this game, Ballou was 6-0, and feature a couple of the top rated players in the D.C. area. They are certainly no push over.

Chad Jackson seemed to have the ball on an elastic cord all night. He protected the ball well, and advanced it at will. Ballou could not trap him. It's hard to believe there is a better rebounding point guard in the 16th Region. Official stats show him with 11 boards. I thought he had two more.

 

Ballou simply had no answer for Euton or Jackson.

 

Michael Fuller dropped a big three to tie the game in the closing seconds. He's not afraid to make the big shot.

 

Johnny Bush, Alex Malloy and Tony Arthur do the intangibles that keep RH in the game. Tenacious defense, deflections, steals, assists, rebounds, constant movement and harassment. Chase Jackson returned to the line up to contribute in the paint, and had a couple of monster blocked shots.

 

Ballard is loaded with talent, and a very tall order for any team from the 16th. RH will give them all they've got.

Good Win for RH and the 16th.Rh is not my team in the 16th but I will be rooting for them against Ballard.

Ballard will probally but Hamilton on Jackson and Beckham on Euton today, that is real tough defense for any 9th graders, hope they represent the 16th well against a top 5 team in the state, but I'm afraid reality hits home today

The big difference is going to come in the other 3 positions, Ballard has serious athletes at all 5 spots, their weakness is outside shooting

I don't think reality sits in today. Remember Rose Hill has already played Mason and got beat pretty good. I think the reality is that this team is a serious contender for a trip to Richmond and Rupp.

Fairdale High School in Louisville. Win or lose, this tournament is an excellent experience for the young Royals. I have been told lately by knowledgeable basketball people in the Lexington area that Ballard is a somewhat better team than Mason County (both are obviously fine teams). Therefore, a win today is not likely. However, such opponents will only make Rose Hill better. As we all know, you don't get better beating up on duds.

The Courier Journal featured a full write-up of Rose Hill on the front page of the Saturday Sports section today which carried over to page 4, with two separate color photos of both Euton and Jackson. He even featured quotes from Clark Francis with HoopScoop, and mentioned major colleges interested in the pair.

 

Jody gave RH the same treatment four years ago when O.J. Mayo & company came to town. Regardless of what happens this afternoon, it's good to play outside of the 16th Region.
