COVID-19 just blew up the schedules for 4A District 1...

Featured Replies

District 1 – Calloway County, Hopkins County Central, Hopkinsville, Logan County, Madisonville-North Hopkins

Hopkinsville just released a statement on social media stating "...the 2020 Hopkinsville High School football season has been put on hold. Because a player for Calloway County, our opponent last Friday, has tested positive for Covid-19, all the players who played in the game have to quarantine through October 9. That means there will be no practices or games during that time."

Currently there are three district games scheduled for the weeks of October 2 and October 9 between the teams in District 1:
Oct 2 - Hopkinsville at Logan County
Oct 9 - Madisonville-North Hopkins at Hopkinsville
Oct 9 - Calloway County at Hopkins County Central

With only four weeks available after October 9th to reschedule any games, that means, inevitably, we're going to see some cancellations among opponents of the District 1 teams in order to reschedule their district games against one another.

I don't know if it has or hasn't been discussed already, but does the KHSAA have measures in place for the scenario where a team is unable to complete their regular season district schedule?

I guess this may be a stupid question but is there some kind of rule that says a team can’t play 2 games in one week say like Tuesday and Friday I know it would be unusual and I know some people are going to say that’s to hard on the kids but is it really these are 16-18 year old kids when I played I could’ve played two games in a week as a matter of fact we did in middle school it was not uncommon to play Tuesday and Thursday but that was several years ago maybe people don’t do that anymore.

I think the whole "OMG 2 Weeks Thing" is unnecessary and has cascading negative affects on student athletes.

Are there any adults in the room?

It baffles me the mandatory two week quarantine because someone on ANOTHER team had a positive case. The ramifications of this come playoff time will be HUGE if not addressed in my opinion.

I agree. Very low chance of spread.

I would say the team in which the positive case is on should quarantine, but not the team they played.

Agreed. Would like to see the science behind that.

CDC just updated their statistics and seems to me like the restrictions are worse On the public than the virus.

Just an observation here, but, I guess now it's so much for the "just let them play, we'll do whatever we need to do" mentality?  This isn't a surprise.  The whole two-week quarantine after a positive case was in the plan all along.  I disagree with the entire plan and have from the start, but it IS what was laid out beforehand right?  Nothing new here.

For some schools yes, for other schools no.

Two week quarantine for the team that had a kid test positive was the plan, yes. Two week quarantine for the other team you played against was never discussed.

Actually it was encouraged but was ultimately left up to the discretion of each school district.  You had to know that with the over=precaution that surrounds this whole ordeal that that was going to be the case.  Again, I'm in disagreement with the process, but it cannot be a surprise to anyone.  School districts are trying to protect their students AND themselves.
