Don't forget about missing the Alamo Bowl at the end of the season as well as preseason practice in 05. That punishment went a long way in that if Smith doesn't take the money The Bucks might as well of won the title last season.

:thumb: :thumb: No one was mentioning that. (the thought of the Buckeyes winning two in a row was just too much for most to stand - LOL)

My exact sentiment...it's quality has been diminished now.

I would guess your thinking next season will not have the same tone about the award being tainted if there happens to be a Louisville player in the mix.;)

Here is what ESPN columnists Ivan Maisel and Louisville's own Pat Forde have to say about Troy Smith and the Heisman:

:thumb: Thanks for the links. Both great stories and clearly tell the story of what kind of person Troy Smith has become. In these days and times how can one not feel good about a young man who has overcome a lot of negatives and turned them into positives?

Which player? ...and what are you inferring? It proves that the voters have short memories....Brian and Michael have 10 X's the character, and have stayed true, than Troy Smith.

You a Louisville fan and you have to asked which player? You named them. If they return both are top candidates for the Heisman. I was referring to the fact that YOU stated the Heisman would not be the same again since it was tainted., so according to your statement the award has no clout, since it so tainted. I agree Brohm has character, I don't know much about Bush so I can only take your word. It is your opinion about the character of each player. Can you honestly say that after the way Troy Smith has handled himself after making a mistake (that some haters can't forgive), that he has no or little character? A simple question I have asked others, Have you not ever been given a second chance to correct something that you have done wrong? Ask yourself this same question and I believe you would think differently about Troy Smith and his character, or maybe you won't.

I'd attribute that more to the lack of a realistic challenger than to Smith being the most talented.

He was the only one who could have won it. Did he deserve it? Yes.

Did he have any one running with him? No.

Darn , I was hoping Ol' Jim Bob Cooter from Tennessee was going to win the Heisman. :p:D

:thumb:  I agree, ol' Jim Bob got hosed

I agree completely....It's not that Smith doesn't deserve the Heisman, he without a doubt does. The competition though was not too strong.

There were three guys from last year (Leinart, Bush, Young) and four from the previous year (Leinart, Bush, White, Peterson) who probably would have won it over Smith of this year.

But, he was well deserving. Congratulations to him. It was just a down year as far as Heisman-hype and competition, IMO.

Am I the only person who thinks that Troy Smith isn't even the best player on his team?

Unless you have an athlete like Reggie Bush or a player who breaks a significant record the award is given to the QB on the best team in the country.

This hurts the prestige of the award in my honest opinion. The fact that voters are previous Heisman winners makes me even more baffled at the outcome.

Those were all great players that you mentioned. IMO I do not think there was less hype for the Heisman than in previous years. I believe it was not in the news as much because Smith was labeled as the man to beat at the very beginning and he did nothing throughout the season to hinder his chances. As you mentioned he did deserve the award.

Slink

Personally I think " Sonic Joe" should have won it. He could out run and out throw Troy Smith any day of the week. ESP if you have Milkshakes involved!! :ylsuper:

Wonder if anybody else knows how hard it is for a 20 year old kid to refuse a $500 handshake?

A lot easier now...
