Sure Troy Smith deserved a second chance, he got it, he sould not, however have been able to win the Heisman...

He took $500 from a booster a couple of years ago. That's why he had to miss the 1st game of the year last year.

 

And The Alamo Bowl the prior season. He sat out two games. Paid the money back and waited for clearance from the NCAA and got it. End of story!

There were three guys from last year (Leinart, Bush, Young) and four from the previous year (Leinart, Bush, White, Peterson) who probably would have won it over Smith of this year.

 

But, he was well deserving. Congratulations to him. It was just a down year as far as Heisman-hype and competition, IMO.

Also I believe all or most all of the ones you just mentioned had some sort of "questionable" accusations :confused: either in recruiting or while they were at their respective university during the season/season's. I admit that I jumped all over USC and threw "Jabs' at them about Bush., Leinhart, but there was nothing to this extent on here crying and complaining on those guys. A poster earlier said what it all boils down to basically is an extreme dislike for the guys on top. Imo that is all this is about, plain and simple and most on here (bgp) know it and what it is all about. The NCAA was obviously satisfied with how OSU handled the situation mor he wouldn't had been playing. Imo it is time for the OSU haters to get over it!

You a Louisville fan and you have to asked which player? You named them. If they return both are top candidates for the Heisman. I was referring to the fact that YOU stated the Heisman would not be the same again since it was tainted., so according to your statement the award has no clout, since it so tainted.

I talked to some friends who attended the '02 NC game in Tempe who tailgated next to some Hurricane fans. I thought it was interesting that the Canes fans told my buddies "If by chance you get lucky enough to win tonight, you had better get ready for the biggest body cavity search you could imagine" Well we got it, as does just about every other school when they get on top. USC - Reggie Bush, and UT with the academic problems come to mind real quick. When you have success everyone wants to see you fall, it does not matter which team or school.

 

Ohio State is not perfect, and there have been some things that have really bothered me, the last two years of John Cooper's reign come to mind. How ever we are talking about kids and kids sometimes make bad decisions. Sometimes bad things happen to good people.

 

However, I am proud to have graduated from the greatest university (IMO) in the world. I am proud of the accomplishments of my fellow alum Troy Smith and I only hope that he continues to make us all proud. As I said in another post this was a situation that came very close to another M. Clarett, fortunately for all of us it turned out much differently.
