March 19, 20206 yr As I have stated in the Land of the Free I believe shutting down should be a choice and not forced by our government. With that said, if our government decides there needs to be a shutdown then I believe it should apply to all non-essential businesses that require people to use the same working space. So why do some workers get to come together face to face and work yet many others are put out of work?
March 19, 20206 yr I think that's what's coming. Next question, what do we consider essential vs non essential?
March 19, 20206 yr When you say non-essential how do you define it, which stores specifically do you mean? Groceries, pharmacies, and gas stations are obviously going to fall into the essential category.

Agree with these exceptions. What other businesses should be exempt from shutdown?
March 19, 20206 yr Agree with these exceptions. What other businesses should be exempt from shutdown? I think banks would be an obvious answer.
March 19, 20206 yr Agree with these exceptions. What other businesses should be exempt from shutdown? Most manufacturing sites ? Specifically refineries, power plants and chemical plants ?
March 19, 20206 yr Author I think banks would be an obvious answer. I hear you and I probably need to get some more cash to have on hand just in case.
March 19, 20206 yr Author Most manufacturing sites? Specifically refineries, power plants and chemical plants? I don't know about power plants but manufacturing plants that don't produce essential good should be shut down for sure.
March 19, 20206 yr Agree with these exceptions. What other businesses should be exempt from shutdown? I think it is easier to look at businesses that should be shut down. The key factor is social and service businesses where groups larger than 10 people gather at a time, or where close contact happens between customers and workers. Then you ask, do I really need in the next week what that business offers?
March 19, 20206 yr Agree with these exceptions. What other businesses should be exempt from shutdown? Well the supply chain that keeps them stocked would need to keep up and running. There is probably little need for much of what a mall would supply as of now. Although I would say that if you go into full lockdown every business would have to justify staying open as opposed to justifying why they would need to close down. I think where we are in KY at the moment is probably a decent place.

March 19, 20206 yr I don't know about power plants but manufacturing plants that don't produce essential good should be shut down for sure. I don’t think any manufacturing site can reasonably exist without electricity. When I say chemical plants, I mean those that produce the base chemicals for most products worldwide. But yes, we should absolutely be shutting down most if not all commodity manufacturing.
March 19, 20206 yr Author But yes, we should absolutely be shutting down most if not all commodity manufacturing. If a company cannot provide a clear and convincing reason why they should remain open (and they have workers together face to face) they should have to close too.
March 19, 20206 yr Agree with these exceptions. What other businesses should be exempt from shutdown? Lawncare/Landscaping. The grass is still gonna grow lol.
March 19, 20206 yr Author Lawncare/Landscaping. The grass is still gonna grow lol. Cutting grass/landscaping is not essential and it brings a ton of people together to work and they move from place to place. It sounds like exactly the kind of thing a quarantine is supposed to guard against.
