It depends on the job. Many executives and employees who are the public face of their company sign contracts that gives the company permission to discipline or fire them for their personal actions which may be damaging to the company's image.

Teachers have not only been fired for DUI's but had their teaching certificates pulled by the state preventing them from teaching anywhere else in the US.

 

And teachers make a lot less than football players.
