The Grant County Braves, runner-ups from district 32, face off against the champions of the 31st District, the Gallatin County Wildcats in the final game of the first round of the boys' 8th Region basketball tournament.

 

The two teams met on 2/11/2020, with Grant County winning, 68-56.

 

Gallatin County won the 31st district for the fourth consecutive season; Grant County is back in the 8th Region tournament for the first time since 2015.

 

The Wildcats won the 8th Region All-A tournament this year.

 

Gallatin County's Jarin Rassman leads the Wildcats, averaging just under 20 ppg. Rassman was named to this year's All-Region team....Grant is led by 6'4" senior center Luke Dawalt. Dawalt and Jack Epperson on the Grant County roster both finished as All-Region team members.

So regular season match up's, really mean nothing now but the Wildcats really could not hit water from the beach in the first game. Gallatin shot 35.8 from the field, 22.7 from behind the arch and 37.5 from the line! I fully expect that not to happen tonight, they have played well the last 2 games and not taking anything away from Grant County, i like the Cats in this one.

I also like the cats in this one!

Have to think that Coach Jones will have Logan Riddle on Dawalt. He did a pretty good job with Trevor Hardin from Henry County in the district championship. Gonna be a close one for sure. To close to call from me.

Will be interesting to see, Riddle will have to stay out of foul trouble. I look for Gallatin to open in some type of zone defense. Certainly agree with your other thoughts.

I think this has the potential to be a really good game. I would come to see it if the 11th region semis were not tonight.

Everyone talks about the problems stopping Dawalt but I think the really problem will come on the other side with Grant finding a way to stop Rassman.

Looking back at the regular season matchup. Grant led 30-23 at the half and 45-38 after three quarters.

The Wildcats trimmed the lead to 50-48 midway through the fourth, but Grant scored the next 8 to essentially put away the 68-56 win.

Grant shot 58% from the field and 13 of 19 from the line. Gallatin was 24-67 for 36% and 3 of 8 on free throws.

The Braves out rebounded the Wildcats 38-22. Fairly lopsided stats for a one score game with 4:00 to play.

I've heard good things about the Rassman boy. I haven't seen him play. How tall is he? Does he only play basketball? Does have any offers to play anywhere yet?

Thing is, Dawalt is a much better shooter and can stretch the floor. Hard match up

The games I’ve watched Rassman play he doesn’t shoot outside. He attacks, so I would let him shoot and defend the drive. But who knows. I’m looking forward to a great game
