rjs4470 Posted January 15, 2020 Posted January 15, 2020 • Depeche Mode • The Doobie Brothers • Whitney Houston • Nine Inch Nails • The Notorious B.I.G. • T. Rex Meh. Not terribly impressed. I can almost get onboard with the Doobie Brothers. My top two choices in the list of Nominees were Judas Priest and Thin Lizzy. I probably won't tak the time to watch this years induction ceremony.
Irish Cat Posted January 15, 2020 Posted January 15, 2020 The Notorious B.I.G. is fine as an artist, but he's not Rock n Roll, same for Whitney Houston, but I guess the HOF blurred that line years ago. I consider myself fairly knowledgeable when it comes to music, but I couldn't name more than one song from T. Rex, Depeche Mode, or Nine Inch Nails. (Ok, I can name two for NIN, but only because Cash covered Hurt) Not something I would care to watch either, but congrats to the inductees.
mcpapa Posted January 16, 2020 Posted January 16, 2020 I would have gone with the Doobies (pre MM) and Motorhead.
jvdfc Posted January 16, 2020 Posted January 16, 2020 The Doobies should have been in many years ago. Congrats to those guys. I can do without the rest. I'll agree Judas Priest would be a better choice that the ones that made it this year. Someone needs to start a "Real Rock n Roll Hall of Fame"
B-Ball-fan Posted January 16, 2020 Posted January 16, 2020 Years ago, being the music fanatic that I am, I was thrilled when the Rock n’ Roll Hall of Fame was launched, and even made a special trip up to Cleveland to see it (scheduled along with a Sex Pistols concert of course), but while each year’s nominees and inductees can make for interesting conversation and debates among music lovers while they’re trowing ‘em back at their favorite pub, personally I don’t take much stock in it anymore. Musical tastes are such a subjective matter anyhow, so no matter who gets in, not everyone will be satisfied. Not only that, some of my personal favorite bands, and solo artists that I think are incredibly phenomenal will never get anywhere near the R n’ R HoF. Mass popularity is first and foremost a prerequisite, and understandably so, so no matter how much I think that someone is so great, if hardly anyone knows who they are, then of course they won’t stand a hair of a chance of getting in. Good news is that there’s so much fantastic music from countless genres, and from many eras to enjoy, and great stuff is still coming out everyday if you know where to look for it, so no matter what the R n’ R HoF has to say, I’m still gonna ROCK ON!:ylsuper:
Getslow Posted January 16, 2020 Posted January 16, 2020 I've been a huge fan of Nine Inch Nails and Trent Reznor for a long time. Absolutely deserved. David Bowie once said that he had the influence of a group like The Velvet Underground, touching more other musical acts than could ever be readily understood. Considering he ended up with a writing credit for his sample on Lil Nas X's "Old Town Road", composed what I thought was a fantastic score for HBO's Watchmen series, and was sampled into two pop songs for an episode of Netflix's "Black Mirror" just in the last 18 months, I don't think that influence is going away any time soon.
