Look, I don't doubt the kids intelligence, leaderships skills, or his hustle and heart. That can go along way for any athlete. But I've seen a lot of CCH basketball over the years and never saw him as a offensive threat.

 

You cant say that Rolle and Bondick were trying to do too much last. Both of them are the players Brandon is going to fight for time with. Those two guys are team players and distributed the ball just as well as they scored. They are the future of CCH and you have to see this, unless you have blinders on.

 

Well he has been dominating defensively as well, but to clarify what I said...at this point his offensive skills may not be at the level of TJ and Bo, but the impression given by many is that the kid hasn't played a lick of offense in his life. His offensive skill set is average-above average, nothing flashy, but solid. I didn't mean that he would dominate now- just that he knows what he is doing on the court.

 

I'm not sure where you are coming from with how well you feel Bondick and Roll played- Bondo played a solid game but he will tell you that he had some errors, and Roll (nothing against the kid) was 0-6 from the field.

 

As for the future of CCH, I think that this year is there best oppurtunity to succeed on a statewide level for the next few years. Right now they have two superstar seniors and a deep junior class behind them. After they graduate the class of 07, you have a defensively-deficient (current) junior class followed by the class of 09, which has Maile, Shover, and no height over 6"2.

 

Roll and Bondick are going to be good and hopefully great players both this year and next, but right now I think the man to go with is Brown.

This maybe the rule. I know I'm not one of the older members of the site or even been around basketball that long. But I've been though the St. Henry program, I've seen a lot of basketball at even higher levels. But I've never heard of this rule. What Feldhaus was doing is taught by every basketball coach in the nation. From middle school, high school, and college thats what I've been told. I even teach my 7th grade team this. "Put a but on your man, and get him out of the lane"

 

If thats what was called, thats a joke. That hasn't been called in all the years I've seen ball. Now, if he established position by hooking or pushing, then thats a foul. But if he has position and gets his man out of the lane then thats doing his job.......It might be illegal but I guarentee he was taught to do that.

"A player, whether on the floor or airborne, may not "clear out" or cause contact affecting an opponents vertical plane. This is a foul."

 

You are more than allowed to position your body to prevent a player from getting position for a rebound, but you can't drive him 10 feet backwards.

 

Now, I do agree, many coaches teach this, and it is rarely called. It is only called in excessive situations. Was Feldhaus's situation excessive... I'll let you make that decision...

I can say it was excessive. But I still disagree with the call. Even if it was reversed and Jacobs was doing the samething to Feldhaus I wouldn't have wanted a foul called. That was clear NO CALL.

 

Thanks for the rulebook clarification though. I'm just sticking to me guns on this one. We won't see it called again this year. Or maybe for the next 24 years of my life.

Well I was going to keep my mouth shut on NKYBoy but now Tiger1 had to go and stick his foot in his mouth. You should'nt make comments on things you have no idea of which you are speaking. Brandon is your typical quiet, hard working, smaller guy that never get's his due. From the time he started playing basketball Brandon was the smallest guy on the court and 5432 was dead on Brandon as he DOMINATED grade school basketball. He played on Blessed Sacrament teams that beat very good competition(including Billy Schult and Todd Jacobs led St. Pius) and would score virtually all of his teams points. BB would often have 30 and 40 point games in grade school. Brandon also played for the Rockets and the Tar Heels in AAU and started in front of point guards that now start for Holy Cross, NewCath, and Brossart and was often the leading scorer with players that now start for 4 or 5 local teams. Brandon's AAU team won the state one year with him going toe to toe and beating Duran Jefferson's squad.

Ask the football coaches if they underestimated Brandon. He was a grade school stud in football and won the Mr. Spartan award his 8th grade year and set numerous records at RB, yet when he got to CCH the little guy got switched to defense and never went back till this past spring when he went to the coaches and asked to play RB. Sharing the duties he went on this year to have over 1000 yards rushing, numerous huge punt and kickoff returns, 4 interceptions and played great cover corner, played virtually every play of every game and allot believe was the heart and sole of the team. Not the biggest star for sure but probably the MVP of the state champ squad. So how does that relate to basketball well it looks to be the same issue, small, quiet hard working guy that as soon as he got to CCH they took him out of the offense. He was just a little 5-6 point guard freshmen year, who oh by the way started at point and led his team to win the region freshmen title and then the region JV title as a sophomore. So the point is don't underestimate the kid, if given the chance just like football Brandon will most certainly rise to the occasion.

Did you read the whole thread before you posted this? Did you read the prediction thread? Almost everyone has stated this would be a different game with the whole CCH team out there. But they weren't. CCH still lost and it goes in the the W/L column just the same. Even myself, a St. Henry fan has stated CCH was missing players. Even if they were playing, they don't just get the win. They still have to play the game.

First let me say I am one of BB's biggest fans and have been for years. No kid gives more effort than he does. No argument on any of the football comments, but since you're into facts, let's try and get some of them straight?

 

Unless it was in 9th or 10th grade, Brandon never played for the TarHeels, but did play against them a lot with the NKY Rockets. The Rockets (BB's AAU team) never won state--Finished in the top four and qualified for Nationals four straight years. His U-10 team--the NKY Heat finished second to the Tar Heels, which was their only state championship in that age group. While the predominent player on his Blessed Sacrament teams, to say he "often scored 30-40 points" is incorrect.

 

Regarding his time with the Rockets, he was a consistant contributor on that team, and did start at point in many games. He DID NOT however start "in front of point guards at NCC, Brossart and Holy Cross"!! He never played with Josh Kidney--Brossart's starting PG, but did start along side of Jimmy Uebel, who played a lot of PG for the Rockets. If you're talking Phillip Horan at NCC, he did start while Phil was on the Rockets; and if you referring to Jimmy Ryan (not HC's PG) at Holy Cross, he also started along side Brandon, but Jimmy was more of a 2 or 3 then. He was SELDOM the high scorer for that team which did include kids who are playing for NCC, Boone, Scott, Brossart, CovCath, and Holy Cross. With centers like NCC's Kiernan, Jared Harris, and Troy Cooper and scorers like Jimmy Ryan, Jimmy Uebel, Kurt Bovard, CCH's Peter Sutton, etc.; he wasn't required to score a lot on those teams!!

 

Again no knock on Brandon, but it's a stretch to say he was a dominant basketball player at any level. Very good--Yes! A very good defender--Yes! 100% effort Guy--Yes! Dominant--No!!

I know Brandon well and he was a great teamate on the Rockets squad. That team enjoyed a lot of success and competed well with the Tarheels each and every game. The Rockets qualified for the AAU National Tournament four times. Brandon never played for the Tarheels. Brandon was on a team that included plakers like Peter Sutton (Cov Cath Football), Jimmy Uebel (Brossart), Jimmy Ryan (Holy Cross), Zach Kiernan (NCC), Byan Niemeyer (Brossart), Troy Cooper (Brossart), Kurt Bovard (Cov Cath), Nathan Sharp (Scott), Philip Horan (NCC), Zach Rose (Campbell Football), Jared Harris (NCC football) and briefly Ben Ryan (Boone). Uebel and Jimmy Ryan are not point guards in high school but did play some point or the two or three positions for the Rockets. When one played the point the other was at the two position and Brandon NEVER started in front of them. Niemeyer usually played the swingman spot. Brandon was the starting point in front of Philip most games but he split starting spots with Nathan at times. Ben Ryan was a good sub while he played for the Rockets for one or two years. I do not ever remember Brandon leading the Rockets in scoring. The scoring was normally taken care of by Uebel, Ryan and Bovard as well as the big men (Sutton, Kiernan, Cooper, Rose or Harris.) Brandon knew his role like everyone else on that team and they all did a good job filling those roles. The team was very well coached, highly skilled and fundamentaly sound. It would have been interesting if Coach Ryan could have convinced his Rocket players to attend the small school in Latonia. An "All A" State Championship and 9th Region Championship would have certainly be possible.

Bottom line about Brandon is that he is a team player that knows his role and does his best to fill it. No more and no less.
