December 4, 200619 yr I think this thread was started because of Jim's wishful thinking more so than anything else. Whatever. It is an interesting case because it has never happend. My concern is more with him just leaving after this season and not during.
December 4, 200619 yr If he went undrafted coming off a strong NCAA Tourney appearance, don't you think that tells you something about NBA teams' feelings for him?
December 4, 200619 yr It would be a wierd situation if an NBA team wanted him. Is there any rules about college kids talking with NBA GM's and Coaches about money an contracts while they are still participating in NCAA athletics? Also it would be interesting to see how they would go about doing a deal with Randolph since he doesnt have an agent because if he did he wouldnt be allowed to play for UK right now.
December 4, 200619 yr Why? I think it's a perfectly valid question. Morris has the potential to be a precedent case, and I think that if he does well at UK and fits in an NBA team's playoff push puzzle, they'll make an offer. To think otherwise is playing the role of the ostrich to the extreme. Morris has already in a way been a precedent case. He went to the draft, wasnt drafted and came back and that was the first I had heard of that when it happened. I really dont think he is looking for another one. Also, who can Randolph help with a playoff push? Who is going to be better off playing Randolph Morris than the guys they have had most of the year and other big guys just sitting out there waiting to find a team: I find it much more likely that an NBA team is going to sign an experienced free agent to the minimum, than what Morris would likely ask for, and I would bet it wouldnt be the minimum. Finally, I've said this before, and it would simply be in bad taste. David Stern and the powers that be would not look to do this. It's not a Euro team with Chrisitan Drejer. Its the NBA who is trying to get away from the bad image they have had in years past, and this would just be another black eye. Randolph would basically be committing social suicide as well, in ticking off his current teammates. I also cant see any future teammates respecting him either. Its one thing to leave after the season, which is looking very likely right now, but its a whole different thing to go in the middle of it, and it just wont happen Jim.
December 4, 200619 yr Guaranteed. Every NBA GM is salivating at the possibility of being lucky enough to land Greg Oden. Were Oden in Morris' unique shoes, do you really think the NBA would show restraint? Hypothetical: Say UK played OSU sometime in mid-January and Morris plays the game of his life, dominating Oden. What then? There's a place on just about any NBA roster for a dependable low-post scorer, and that certainly seems to be young Randolph's calling card … Is this happening? Is RM Greg Oden? Your hypothetical might work if it had the possibility of happening, but it doesnt.
December 4, 200619 yr It's a big assumption that RM would be the best FA on the market. Why RM when a stud like Paul Shirley is available? :thumb:
December 4, 200619 yr Whatever. It is an interesting case because it has never happend. My concern is more with him just leaving after this season and not during. You dont think Jim would be salivating at the Big Blue Nation being in disarray and uproar if RM left? If you dont, you are fooling yourself as much as Jim.
December 4, 200619 yr You dont think Jim would be salivating at the Big Blue Nation being in disarray and uproar if RM left? If you dont, you are fooling yourself as much as Jim. Exactly :thumb:
December 4, 200619 yr You dont think Jim would be salivating at the Big Blue Nation being in disarray and uproar if RM left? If you dont, you are fooling yourself as much as Jim.UK does not need to lose Morris to be in disarray and uproar. That is just a given
December 5, 200619 yr UK does not need to lose Morris to be in disarray and uproar. That is just a given  Well then imagine that happening....
December 5, 200619 yr Author For the record, I don't care one way or another. Personally, I'd hate to see RM or any other player leave before his four years are exhausted, because that means I don't get to see them anymore once they leave college. And some of you guys need to lay off the crack pipe. You act as though I'm suggesting RM come in from the college ranks and be Karl Malone. Pro teams are constantly looking to improve a deficient area. What's to say they don't look at their rotation in mid-January and see a player putting up great numbers who is in the unique situation to be able to be available immediately? While maybe not likely, I hardly think any NBA team is somehow morally above snatching up a college player who has already demonstrated a desire to be in the league moreso than he desires being in college …

Personally, I'd hate to see RM or any other player leave before his four years are exhausted, because that means I don't get to see them anymore once they leave college. Likely story. You couldnt say otherwise and expect us to take you seriously do you? And some of you guys need to lay off the crack pipe. You act as though I'm suggesting RM come in from the college ranks and be Karl Malone. Pro teams are constantly looking to improve a deficient area. What's to say they don't look at their rotation in mid-January and see a player putting up great numbers who is in the unique situation to be able to be available immediately? Not that at all, but you are basically saying that he could come in and contribute or make an impact. Anybody who would have room for Randolph is going to be somebody that is way out of the hunt, not a playoff type team that has a rotation going. While maybe not likely, I hardly think any NBA team is somehow morally above snatching up a college player who has already demonstrated a desire to be in the league moreso than he desires being in college … And he was rejected upon his wishes to enter the league. Have things changed so quickly? Again, I enjoy the argument and the way you disregard my points as they dont fit your argument. :fire:
December 5, 200619 yr Author Likely story. You couldnt say otherwise and expect us to take you seriously do you? Does it really matter? The real question is have you allowed your feelings to be so hurt by my ribbing of the UK fan base that you can't spot a good observation for what it is? And I am well on record as always wanting players to stay four years. Not that at all, but you are basically saying that he could come in and contribute or make an impact. Anybody who would have room for Randolph is going to be somebody that is way out of the hunt, not a playoff type team that has a rotation going. Suppose a team is getting no production from their second-string PF, and Randolph has shown a steady game-by-game improvement, taking a major step forward, indicating he could provide 4-6 ppg and a few boards perhaps in the right NBA setting. I contend the team does what it can to help out its chances, no matter how unorthodox or seemingly unethical. And he was rejected upon his wishes to enter the league. Have things changed so quickly? Again, I enjoy the argument and the way you disregard my points as they dont fit your argument. :fire: You can construct your own hypothetical if you want. Under mine, I have rigidly defined the variable: RM's play improves dramatically to where he's a 20/10 guy regularly. NBA scouts are aware of his unique status, and are intrigued …
