This is exactly what is going to happen. Recruits will want guaranteed endorsements before signing with a school. This won't just be the 5 Star kids either, every kid and parent will assume they deserve money too. Local businesses will be strong armed into using/paying recruits for ads and appearances or lose access to the football/basketball programs.

I could be wrong, but I thought I read where "endorsement" type of deals weren't going to be included. I'll have to see if I can find that article. Maybe they were just speculating whether or not it'd be included.

Without a doubt. Benny Snell is probably the only football player at UK since probably Randall Cobb who is as close to as marketable any basketball player. The same with our boys up in Columbus. I love what Holtmann is doing and he's starting to bring in some great recruits, but if this does turn in to a matter of local businesses in Columbus having a student athlete represent the business in some way, almost all 85 players on football scholarship are more marketable in Columbus than any of the 12 scholarship basketball players.

If it actually plays out this way, then a lot of schools will become one sport dominant...with everything else falling away.

I wonder if NCAA golfers will be able to keep any potential winnings in pro tournaments? There are amateurs in every tournament, most college kids. In the past if they finished in the money they had to turn it down.

Maybe Josh Allen, Kash Daniels (Ky high school legend), and Lynn Bowden.

The NCAA and its members have had any number of opportunities over the last few decades to get big money out of college sports.

 

At every opportunity, they have declined.

As marketable as a UK basketball player? No chance. I could potentially see Kash, but I still think at the end of the day if you told a business in Lexington or elsewhere in the state that they could have 1 athlete at UK be a spokesperson for their business they’re going to go with a basketball player 10/10.

Yup the football guys will still do well, they will simply be getting the B and C offers at UK. Matt Jones, will still have a once a month signing at his bar for $25 a pop. Some of the guys will get low line corporate offers, just nothing like a John Wall would.
