Deer Hunting?!?!

Featured Replies

I had a buddy who used to squirrel hunt with no weapons at all. I asked him how he did it and he said he'd just look up at the squirrel and "ugly" it to death. :D

He said he had to quit taking his wife with him because she tore 'em up too bad.

 Heard that one before but it always brings a laugh!!

The main thing to consider: DONT GO CHEAP!!!

It doesnt matter if it is guns, scopes, clothing or what.

Good guns hold value.

Expensive clothes keep you warm.

I might have to go kind of cheap. It is christmas time so I need money for gifts, I am saving money for a new car and my girlfriend and I have a little one on the way. A friend told me I can get a gun for what I would need for $300-$400. All of this info is great guys and thanks again. I was wondering if anyone could post links to pics of what they suggest to help me see what I am looking for. You all rock!! GO BREDS!!

Gun season is over for this year anyway so why be in a hurry?

Spend the next few months learning more about the sport, taking the hunter safety course, doing some gun research, checking at gun stores and talking to your buddies about it.

Then wait until this summer to buy the rifle.

Muzzle Loader season is in December. If any of your friends intend to hunt during that season it would be a good time to tag along with them and see what you think.

I have a suggestion, after the holidays is a great time to find a used gun. I bought one of my favorites after the holidays a few years back from a friend who was broke from the holidays, so, of course,,,I had to help him out. Not only will it be considerably less than a new one, but you may be able to buy "more" gun for your budget. One word of caution though, if you don't know weapons that well, take someone with you who is well versed in the sport to "inspect" the firearm before you buy it, regardless of who owned it first. You can also ask for a firearm check from the police to insure you aren't buying something that is "hot". Just a suggestion!

If you are wanting to go quality with comparable affordability I would most reccoment the Ruger M77 .270 for an all purpose hunting rifle.

What if the serial numbers are removed? Does that mean anything????

I agree with Watusi.

Gun season is over this year so no reason to rush out a buy something now just to have it. I would also suggest going out now and sitting in one of your buddy's stands or even on the ground just to see how you would like it. It would also give you some scouting time and experience being on stand. If your budget is $300-$400 dollars you should be able to get a pretty good used rifle.

What if the serial numbers are removed? Does that mean anything????

No, I'm sure it's ok. I wouldn't worry.

Does Chris Henry use a bolt action rifle?:D I didn't think that would be an effective weapon for a drive by.

I want to get it by the end of the year. We are going to my friends land (300+ acres) to shoot targets and learn how to take care of the gun .

If you can afford it get an Encore...I have one and love it. You can buy different barrels ranging from the black powder, shot gun, and the high power rifle such as the 30-06. Great gun, I haven't found a problem with it yet. Well besides how much it can cost.
