November 30, 200619 yr If you can afford it get an Encore...I have one and love it. You can buy different barrels ranging from the black powder, shot gun, and the high power rifle such as the 30-06. Great gun, I haven't found a problem with it yet. Well besides how much it can cost. I agree. I just bought one in October. It was last years model and I got a great deal on it and a NIKKON BDC scope at A&W sports in Irvine. They still had a few left I would check into it. One of the best guns I have ever held agianst my shoulder.
November 30, 200619 yr I would love to have an Encore if I gun hunted. The new Pro Hunter they came out with this year is probably the best looking gun out there. Of course at between $700-$900 it can be a bit pricing.
November 30, 200619 yr I can't believe that most people on here have failed to mention that you need a good rolling stand to be an effective deer hunter. I have several friends who have better results than I do and the biggest difference is the type of stand we hunt from.

November 30, 200619 yr My friends have stands that roll, they are climate controlled and have an audio system. They seem to be able to cover a lot more ground than I can from my trusty climber. These stands have a built in shooting rest and can be used any time of the day or night. There are several manufacturers but the ones that seem to be used the most are by made by Chevrolet, Ford, and Dodge.

You wouldn't be insinuating that they might also be using an illumination system would you?
November 30, 200619 yr You wouldn't be insiuating that they might also be using an illumination system would you? I would say that most of the time they drive old roads during the day but I have heard words like Qbeam and candlepower before.
November 30, 200619 yr All joking aside, if I had a friend who was spotlighting deer on other people's land and I knew about it, I would turn them in. The only exception would be if they were destitute and needed the meat.

The only exception would be if they were destitute and needed the meat. Joking aside, I agree with you. Spotlighting is the least sportsmanlike thing that a hunter can possibly engage in. Whats the point? I know that I can hit a deer with a high power rifle, the thrill is the hunt.
November 30, 200619 yr I think they were snipe hunting. I don't know exactly what goes on, I suspect some foul play every now and then, but that is between them and God. Watusi If you would turn a friend in for spotlighting would you turn them in for shooting a seventh squirrel on the way back to the truck or for calling in a turkey one day early. Would you turn them in for speeding or not wearing a seatbelt? I guess some people draw the lines a little differently.

The only exception would be if they were destitute and needed the meat. If that were the case, then they could just as easily, or more likely even easier, spotlight and shoot a doe! Bet you don't see that much!:thumb:

Now that we've totally blown up the tread,,,I know of a couple of guys that were at a local gun range sighting in their turkey guns and such and called a longbeard in and it was 1 week before season. The irony is that 2 fish and game officers came in pursuit of a baited area nearby for poachers. So, how wrong is it to call a turkey in before season, which by the way, is illegal whether you shoot it or not!
November 30, 200619 yr I just got this from a friend I hunt with. It was taken last weekend with a bow. Alcan Aluminum owns about 2500 acres around there plant in Henderson Co.. The employees are allowed to hunt it and can take 1-2 non employees with them. I have hunt there a couple of times but never saw anything like this. It gross scored in the low 180's and had a net score of 162". It was shot from a regular stand, not the Silverado edition.
