Raceland travels to Henry R. Evans Stadium Saturday night at 8pm. It will be Russell's hall of fame night. Thoughts and predictions on the game?

I thought Raceland would be a huge favorite before the Raceland/Greenup game but they're still a slight favorite until Russell can prove they can beat them. Russell's last win over Raceland was 2016.

I feel like this one is even, but I'll go with Raceland by a score.

After watching Greenup Co. give Raceland all it could handle, I’m taking Russell in this matchup. Eventually I think Raceland will be a good team but I think Russell is the better team right now.

I'll go with Raceland 24 Russell 17. I hope I am wrong though.

I'm expecting Russell to try and muscle the Rams around up front. This is one of the biggest offensive lines the Devils have ever had, combined with a couple of decent sized tight ends and Conley (200+lbs) and Anderson (220 lbs) in the backfield. They might put the ball in the air enough to give the Rams something to think about, but I think a major point of emphasis in this week's game plan should be to punish Raceland between the tackles.

Conversely, Raceland's running game was as bad last week as I've seen from them in a while. I don't know that they'll beat Russell averaging 2 yards per carry. I'm sure Salmons and his staff will be striving for more balance this week.

This staff needs to adjust to its strength. The run game might not be there this season but I’d have me one of my playmakers back there to hand it too.

I don't think Lewis or Cox either one has the ideal frame to take a beating between the tackles several times a game. But if you're talking jet sweeps, then yeah, I'd consider making those a regular part of the weekly game plan. But it's too early for Raceland to be panicking over the running game. If they're still struggling to run the ball in a few weeks, then maybe I'd start considering adding some new wrinkles to the offense.

Yes I’m talking either some jet sweeps, toss left/right off the tackle. In goaline situations add to blockers in a power set up and let them go to work inside the 10. But I agree those two kids aren’t ur normal backs who take 20+ carries a game. I think u could rotate between the 2 playmakers Lewis and Cox and get them about 5 carries a piece in some game situations.

I am concerned on Raceland's line. They held their own vs. GCHS last week but had trouble at times, GC's line (O' line) was big and much improved. I like the Raceland receiving crew along with the Rams QB. This, imo will be Russell's best chance to get a W over Raceland in quite a while. I think that T.J. (coach Maynard) feels that he has a pretty good team. With it being the Russell H.O.F. game, I'll give the Red Devils a slight edge.

Russell will probably have some fans / alumni in that are usually not there for a lot of their games. They will be there to celebrate their past stars, teams, and the Russell football tradition. With the exception of maybe the Ashland game (if / when the years it is at Russell)

Ram Players …. I don't know you feel about being the "chosen sacrifice / team to beat" for a Russell HOF celebration, but I know how it would make me along with a lot of the ones I went to school with feel …. would be time for some " Ram Football Pride" ! I'll just leave it at that for you guys, the Raceland team to think about. …….

Raceland went with multiple personnel groupings on the offensive line against Greenup. They seemed to go with their biggest, most experienced group inside the red zone and used some younger, less experienced linemen between the 20s in order to keep guys like Brayden Shore and Hayden Topping fresh for their defensive roles. When it came to the running game, it didn't seem to matter which unit Raceland had on the field. Greenup snuffed out everything except a couple of nice runs. It's too early to say whether that says more about Raceland's o-line or Greenup's defensive front.

I think the battle in the trenches and Russell's secondary versus Raceland's speedy receivers could be the chief deciding factors in the outcome on Saturday.
