Covington Catholic 37 Ryle 0

Featured Replies

Ryle really couldn’t get any offense going. Their defense was on the field most of the game.

First game jitters with CCH dropping 2 wide open touchdown passes, and having a pick 6 called back all in the 1st half yet they were still up 23-0. NO penalties on our line in 2nd Half which was good to see. Ryle’s only offense was the last play of the 1st Half and garbage time-CCH was not smooth tonight on offense, but still handled their business.

Covington Catholic finishes with 309 total yards of offense, 102 yards rushing and 207 yards passing.

Ryle finishes with 79 total yards of offense, 12 yards rushing, and 67 yards passing.

The defense was no doubt the best thing about CovCath tonight. They never really seemed to be 100% in rhythm on offense. That's something they have to improve on if they're going to be state contenders again. But other than that, dominating win by the Colonels.

I’ll take some crow with a side of crow. Knew Cov would win but thought the Raiders would put a score or two on the board.

The Good:

I thought the Raiders Defense was leagues ahead of last seasons play. They played against their Endzone the entire game and had a lot of nice plays and big stops. Ryle’s Dline was impressive against the Behemoths Cov Cath has.

The Bad

They couldn’t put anything together on Offense, it looked very unorganized and the timing was severely off. I think they have a couple Good Lineman and a couple that need extra reps in practice.

The Ugly

Same problem as the last three seasons.

QB play - 5 INTs with 0 TDs= loss every time

Nice opener for the Colonels. Some things to get cleaned up, but always nice to work on things with one in the win column.

That's a fair take. Looking at things objectively, Ryle was improved from last year, and it's only the first week of the season. England is a workhorse, and produced basically everything for Ryle's offense. Even when he was hit in the backfield, he oftentimes broke off of a tackler or two before being brought down. Truth be told, I really thought the sophomore QB for Ryle was promising. The passes he was able to get off cleanly looked great in the air, and were on the money.

Ryle's defense wasn't bad either. They were effective on stopping big runs by Cov Cath, and they were able to put a stop to a lot of the passing game, aside from Mayer - which is a tall order for any team. Mayer had 106 yards on 2 receptions.

Most of these posts say Ryle looked decent and CovCath did not. Wasn’t the score 37-0? What am I missing?

Cov Cath is elite and this was a “given” win. Ryle is improved from last year and didn’t get a running clock put up in the 1st quarter. Both teams will learn from the film and move forward.

Expectations for each team. Cov Cath is expecting to challenge for a 5A state title. Ryle is expecting to improve over last season.

Covcath has a lot to improve on. Schedule only gets tougher after next week.
