Hazard (29-7) survived a pitcher's duel versus Corbin to advance to the quarterfinals, where they'll tangle with Trinity in a David versus Goliath type matchup.

 

Davis Crane helped power the Shamrocks (34-5) past North Oldham in the Semi-State round with a home run and 4 RBIs.

 

Game time is Thursday, June 6th at 8:30pm at Whitaker Bank Ballpark.

Hazard's win yesterday is the one first round game where the underdog got the win. Congrats to Hazard on that 10 inning thriller over Corbin. That win earns the Bulldogs a tough matchup in round 2 against the top ranked team in the tournament.

While Trinity is definitely the favorite, Hazard has a history of playing really well against large schools in the state tournament. Witness:

 

-2014 they beat McCracken County before falling to Simon Kenton, 1-0, in 10 innings.

-2016 beat North Laurel then lost to Campbell County (14-3, the only big loss in their recent trips)

-2017 lost to Marion County in eight innings

-2018 beat Corbin and Greenup County before losing to St. Xavier, 3-0.

 

It wouldn't surprise me to see Hazard compete for seven innings with the Rocks.

I’m not from Hazard but will be rooting for them as representatives of the 14th region to win.

Tonight’s quarterfinal game between Trinity (Lou.) and Hazard has been postponed. The game will resume at 11 a.m. tomorrow morning, with gates opening for fans at 10 a.m. Fans can hold on to their ticket to gain admission for tomorrow’s re-scheduled contest.

Game time has been delayed again. KHSAA says they will reassess at 1pm both the status of this game and tonight's scheduled semifinals. Doesn't look good.

That's the way the cookie crumbles and I would think Trinity is in a better situation to handle adversity.
