When you have a chance to win a game, you win the game. You happy giving away games when you are like 6-12 and last place? Put me in the category of NO for me.
April 22, 20197 yr A lot of you guys are happy with mediocrity and the Reds have beat you down. Oh we won three, the last game does not matter. Oh we have seven players batting under .200, oh they will hit. Other teams does not have this so why do we accept it with the Reds? Reds were terrible in April last year. Why? Why are we out of the race by the middle of May? We have just come to accept the Reds and Bengals as mediocre and that the way it is.

However, the consistent negativity spewed in these threads is tiresome and almost unbearable. We all know they suck at times. Constantly complaining about it, doesn't make it better, nor mean you care more. I will always be happy with winning a series.

April 22, 20197 yr Reds thru 21 games... 2018 3-18 record 10 games back 61 runs scored 117 runs given up 2019 8-13 record 5 games back 72 runs scored 68 runs given up So, even with the team hitting below .200...we've still scored 11 more runs than last year. And defensively (pitching-wise)...we've given up 49 LESS. That's a +60 in run differential in just 21 games! We've made up 17.5% of the games behind vs. last year (5/28.5) in only 13% of the games...and did it with a team batting below .200. There is obvious reason to be encouraged at this point. (Atlanta, BTW, is leading the league with a .266 average, and has only 3 more wins to show for it.) My biggest fear starting the season was that we'd lose sight of the leaders before Scooter and Wood got back. I'm no longer worried about that.

You are going to automatically win 1/3, lose a 1/3 and have 1/3 that are a toss-up. You aren't going to win them all...to act like the sky is falling after losing yesterday is silly. April 22, 20197 yr Speaking of Scooter, has anyone heard how he is progressing with his injury? Peraza looks to me like he has a "hitch" in his swing. Never saw it before this year. The fact that he continues to be run in and out of the lineup could also be contributing to this as well. The last I heard on Scooter was a week or so ago. Heard them say he was itching to at least be in the dugout, but that they were holding him back from that. (I guess they were afraid he'd do something dodging a foul ball or something.) As to Peraza, I think what they're asking him to do defensively may have a part (small?). Last year he was the shortstop. There was no doubt about it. This year, he was supposed to be the shortstop and then all of a sudden, he's the second baseman. But wait, we're going to move you back to shortstop in the middle of a game, or heck even to start...and, oh yeah...can you play center field every now and then? A lot of people forget that he's only 24 and been a regular in the majors for a little over 2 years. I think a lot of people thought he had a really good year last year, so expectations were high for this year. So, there was a little pressure (even if self-supplied)...then, toss in the position changes and everyone else struggling...and I think he's been really pressing.

Never said sky was falling but just pointing out people were happy with winning three out of four after just losing a very winnable game. I have played or been involved in sports for forth years and I have never been happy after winning three, seven or ten games in a row and losing the next one. I played on a softball team that won 35 in a row and was ticked off when we lost.

Losses need to be put in perspective just like wins. The greatest teams in history lost games they shouldn't have. Remember the other team is also paying millions of dollars in salaries to win that same game. Winning 75% of your games in baseball is nearly impossible, just the facts of baseball. So if the Reds win 75% of a home stretch, a road trip or even a series it should be cause for optimism, not perpetual negativism. That's just the way I look at it.
