BGP QOTD: What are the 5 best spots for wings where you live?

Featured Replies

I've been dealing with a SERIOUS hankering for wings in the last 3 or 4 days. I think Mrs_Wears_Blue and I will be heading out for some wings tonight (location is yet to be determined), but I've already been thinking about wings all morning, haha.

What are your top spots around where you live?

Best traditional Buffalo wings, I would say River City Draft House, with The Back Door in a close second place.

For the best smoked wings, I've got to go with Frankfort Avenue Beer Depot. Momma's Mustard, Pickles & BBQ has great smoked wings, but I like the wet style they have at F.A.B.D. far more than just the dry rub from Mommas.

If I'm going for different and crispy, I have to go with the hot wings from Charim, a Korean restaurant in St. Matthews. There is just absolutely not any beating the crispiness of their wings anywhere I've been in the entire state of Kentucky. They're deep fried with a super light cornstarch batter, then battered again and deep fried a second time. Amazing.

If I'm going for "fire in the hole" hot, I go to Dakshin Indian and get their chili tandoori wings. Holy moley they're hot.

I'd say overall, for the Louisville area, I would list mine as:

1) Frankfort Avenue Beer Depot

2) River City Draft House

3) Charim

4) The Back Door

5) Dakshin

There's a place on 7th St near Vine in downtown Cincy called Knockback Nat's that have really good and tasty meaty wings. They were even highlighted nationally on a TV show that at the moment I can't remember the name of, but one that gave them nice exposure.

Haven't really been in town long enough to have an educated top five, but my favorite in Cincinnati so far have been at the Oak Tavern on Madison Road.

I drive past that place every day and have never stopped in. Maybe that's a happy hour stop once nice weather shows up. It's perfectly walkable from where I work.

I love Knockback Nat's. They do have awesome smoked wings there....but I think the smoked wings at The Oak edge out the wings at Nat's. Definitely can't go wrong with either though.

Smoke Justis in Covington has good smoked wings too.

I love the traditional wings at Dickmann's Cafe, and the double fried Doc Style wings at Barleycorn's. I've tried Knuk-N-Futz out in Taylor Mill twice, and they were certainly good, but I didn't think they lived up to the hype I'd heard about them.

Home Place just outside of Georgetown Ohio. If you like lots of smoke but not the fire, these are really good. Availability is limited, though.

It's kind of hard to screw up wings, but my favorites down here are:

McDivots Wings and Raw Oyster Bar in Westchase

Charlie's Pizza and Wings in Carrollwood

Ker's Wing House on Ulmerton Road in Clearwater

Abe's Tap House and Grill in Clearwater

The cardinal sin of making wings is not getting the skin crispy enough when you get them. Definitely why I initially started avoiding BW3 years ago.

The air fryer helps when we do our own.

I don't live in Louisville, but I really like the wings at Joe's Older Than Dirt in Lyndon.

I know liking a chain's wings is akin to insulting everyone's wing palates, but I like Quaker Steak & Lube's wings -- tons of meat and great sauces and combinations.

I like the wings at Smoke Justis, no doubt. I think K-N-F is way overrated. FlipDaddy's actually has really good wings, which was a surprise to me.

I miss Cassidy's in Fort Wright, not going to lie.
