Do you know is Calvary has ever won a 37th District game against an opponent other than Silver Grove?

 

I'm too lazy to go and look, but I know they have in other sports outside of basketball, specifically baseball and soccer.

How about we agree that they are somewhere between no "good players" and a "basketball factory". That leaves plenty of middle ground.

 

I'm sure we can all agree when you lose 40 some points per game and 18 boards it's going to leave a gaping hole in your team. Something that doesn't get figured out in 2 and half weeks of time. But, I'm sure we all know that already.

What year did he start, 2012-13? So between 12-13 and 15-16 he was coaching there without the 40/18 machine, right? Actually, Dontaie would have been a FROSH in 15-16, so I assume he played varsity that year. Regardless:

 

2012-13: 14-14

2013-14: 9-19

2014-15: 15-17

2015-16: 16-17

Sorry, I thought for sure he started there in 12/13, I apologize. I didn't "conveniently omit" anything, I was posting his record pre-Dontaie, the 40/18 machine, as someone else called him. Dontaie is a transcendent talent, we all understand that, what did he do before him...that was my point. Obviously they have been MUCH better with Dontaie, but sorry, I'm going to put most of that credit on the kid going to UK.

It isn't hard to win games when you have the caliber of player that Dontaie Allen is, but I think a much clearer picture will be drawn over the next couple of years of exactly what kind of coach the beloved Keaton Belcher is. I know it isn't en vogue to discuss a coach in high school in terms of can they or can't they coach, but at some point, as a professional, it becomes a fair topic of conversation. I know he is a statuesque figure in Pendleton Co., so I'm sure this is going to be a super popular post (sarcasm font), but if he ultimately gets on the list of great player, subpar coach, he will join a VERY illustrious list of former star players.

 

Just curious, have you ever met Keaton Belcher? Ever talked to him?

I’m not trying to defend Belcher, but he’s a friend of a friend and I wanted to state some facts. I know he does honor the past very well @ Pendleton (a lot of young coaches don’t do this).

 

At age 32 his career record to date in 4 1/2 seasons at PC is 82-64. Keep in mind that Dontaie Allen will have missed 40 games in his career. PC has won 3 of the last 4 districts. Not to mention, if Michael Antrobus didn’t transfer to Rowan County after his sophomore year his career record would be a lot better.

 

Belcher has done a great job of taking his teams all over the state of Kentucky and has played out-of-Region opponents.

 

I’m not saying he’s Billy Hicks, Chris Renner, Dale Mabrey, Mike Szabo or Allen Feldhaus but I do think he has enhanced the basketball program at Pendleton since he’s taken over in 2014. He doesn’t recruit other kids from opposing schools. He’s done this with homegrown kids. Unfortunately, the injury bug has hit his team hard for the 2018/19 season and his young, inexperienced team will struggle for the rest of the season.
