Covington Catholic 57 Newport 40

This game was never close.

Newport slowed the game down way more than I expected.

In the end, CCH's defense was just too much for the Wildcats.

Taj Harding was only called for 4 fouls but could've been called for 10. He was pushing, grabbing, two handing and knocking kids over all night. I can see how he bullies around teams with no strong bigs.

Jackson had a great game off the bench for CCH going 3 of 4 from deep.

I wasn’t making a statement on it being a game changer or anything like that. I don’t think it would have impacted the outcome of the game.

May have come off wrong... I was asking, would it have mattered? I dont know. I know he’s a nice player that can shoot. Just didn’t know how his replacement played....

The most noticeable thing is that the Colonels run sets, and move the ball around increasing their chances for an open shot.

The Wildcats do not.

They often times shoot, and then they're one and done, and the Colonels trees then dominate the boards.

Mcguire might've been a threat if he had played, and his shots were dropping because while the Colonels controlled the game, much of the time they were really only ahead by about 10, and if Newport could've connected once in a while they might've made a game of it, but they rarely did, and early when it could've mattered.

Colonels have some bright spots in the shooting department, but not always reliable, so they truly could've been up by more if they would've connected more often with their open looks themselves.

Truly though even if Newport ever manages of hot shooting night which they're capable of, CovCath's efficiency, shooting good or not, will always give the them the edge, and increase their chances of winning.

They cannot be average shooters against the likes of Scott County, or other Top 10 teams, so this is where I worry about their capability of truly being Top 10 material. They certainly have good pieces, and if their shooting can be more consistent then I really think they can prove their Top 10 billing. Perhaps that will come along, and if it does, then they'll certainly be a force to be reckoned with.

Agreed. Offensive discipline is not their forte, but they still are a good team.

Was the physicality only one way?

I was agreeing with you. I didn't mean for that to be taken any other way. Just amazed at how little they even tried to run.

I was just joking Oldbird. Geesh!!! (This too is a pathetic attempt at humor).
