I was thinking more in terms of Raceland not having a true freshman team this year. Do you know if they plan to have a hybrid froshmore team this season aside from JV? I know that's something Raceland has done to varying degrees over the years.

 

It's great to have another Raceland voice here at BGP. I hope you'll be around to provide some insight into the Rams this season and beyond. I try to chime in from time to time, but I'm a Russell guy at heart.

Personally I think all students should be able to attend the school they want in the County.

In reality, there are more students at Raceland now, than there ever has been. I don't expect that to change much, the only problem with the agreement is the ADA money. Parents come to Raceland all the time offering tuition. Unfortunately, the time may come that Raceland has to charge tuition in the amount of the ADA money lost due to the agreement, but I doubt class size is going to affected much for some time to come other then the occasional class with a small amount of athletes, which has happed occasionally over the years.

Only eight freshmen for the Rams this year. It's been a decade or more since they had a frosh class that small.

That is the class that parents held their kids back in middle school for sports. There were somewhere around 10 or 11 kids who play football held back. That is why you see 22 8th graders and only 8 freshmen. Half of the 8th grade team should be freshmen. Boyd Co done that also a few years ago for basketball. The parents all got together as a group and held their kids back (most were honor roll kids) to give them another year of development before entering high school.

If that number is true, that's an excessive amount of kids for one class. I did notice last year that they called up a bunch of seventh graders to play in the eighth grade game versus Russell.

Rams apparently looked really sharp tonight scrimmaging Belfry.

 

Went toe to toe and more than held their own. May have even outscored Belfry in the 10-play format. Belfry didn't have either starting Safety and Raceland ate their secondary up. Both teams scored a bunch of points in varsity vs. varsity action and hit big plays.

 

My Belfry sources said Raceland was as good of a small school Belfry has scrimmaged since that Hazard State Title team. Really solid in all phases and shouldn't be discouraged by the big plays Dixon and Hensley made.

No they shouldn’t. Those kids are going to make plays.
