I just can't believe that they haven't hired a coach yet. That has to be a big boost for Scott Co. having kids staying there just because of the unknown. Most schools will be starting spring practices in probably 8-10 weeks.

I think even if they had named a coach they would be starting in a hole. They should of started on the JV level for the first two years. I’ve heard the kid from Tate’s Creek is moving back to Scott Co. If he goes to Great Crossing instead of Scott Co that would help them a lot. If he wants a chance at a ring then he’ll go to Scott Co.

Ha, I just saw on Twitter where he posted a picture from a UofL defensive practice and tagged the Great Crossing football account. I guess that more or less puts that one to bed.

The Great Crossing IG account made it official. He was just recently on the Scott County staff we believe.

He was definitely on the Scott County staff in the 2015 & 2016 seasons when the Cardinals played Covington Catholic.

This week will be dedicated to introducing our coaching staff for the 2019 season. Day 1 we would like to introduce Coach Paul Rains. Coach Rains recently retired as a head coach. He had been a successful head coach for 27 years at seven different Ky HIgh Schools. Coach Rains has a combined record of 208 wins, putting him in elite company of winning over 200 games in Ky. His teams had 22 winning seasons in 27 years. During his tenure his teams have accumulated 1 State Championship, 1 State Runner-Up, 2 Semi-State Titles, 5 Regional Championships, 1 Region Runner-up, 10 District Championships, 1 Undefeated Regular Season, and 15 eight or more wins in a season. Sixteen assistant coaches who have worked under Coach Rains have gone on to become head coaches in the state of Kentucky.

Day 2 of our coaches spotlight week we would like to introduce Coach Simon Vanderpool. Coach Vanderpool is a Whitley County High School alumni. During his time at Whitley he was a 3 sport athlete earning honors such as WYMT All-Mountain Team, 2 time All-County team and selected to play in the National Guard Border Bowl. Coach Vanderpool then went on to play 4 years of college football at the University of the Cumberlands. After his time playing college football he then went on to coach at his alma-mater for one season.

Day 3 of our coaches spotlight week we would like to introduce Coach Ricky Bowling. Mostly known for his high school playing career, Bowling graduated from South Laurel High School (2009) in London, KY under Head Coach Jason Chappell. Bowling’s name is found in the KHSAA record book from his impressive career as a Quarterback. In his 4-year role as South Laurel’s QB, he recorded 12,575 passing yards - completing 947 of 1,451 passes with a 65.3% completion percentage. Coach Bowling’s most outstanding record came his 2008 senior season when he tied the well-known University of Kentucky QB standout, Tim Couch, for the most TD’s in a career record of 133. To cap coach’s high school career, he finished as KHSAA’s 2008 Mr. Football Runner-Up.

 

Bowling would go onto play one season at the NAIA college level under Head Coach/Offensive Coordinator, Coach Chris Oliver, at Lindsey Wilson College. During the schools first year as a collegiate football team (2010), Bowling through the first Touchdown in school history and finished his college career completing 148 of 260 passes (57%), with 1,693 yards and 15 passing touchdowns.

It’s safe to say that Coach Bowling’s specialty is offense, specifically developing Quarterbacks in the spread offense. His coaching career began in 2014 when he took over as the Offensive Coordinator/QB coach for his alma mater in 2014 under Head Coach Hunter Jackson. Bowling’s first QB project, Jon Jenkins, finished the season completing 128/228 passes with a 56% completion percentage, along with 1,632 yards and 18 TD’s. Following the 2014 season, Coach Bowling found his way to Coach Jason Chappell’s staff in 2015 at Whitley County High School, KY. The Colonels would go on to win back to back district championships in 2016 and 2017. Bowling’s Quarterback project; Dylan Wilson, at Whitley County would go on to win 5A District 8 Player of the Year in 2016 finishing his 2-year starter career with completing 62.4% of his passes on 303 of 485 attempts and attaining 4,279 yards in the air while accounting for 51 passing touchdowns.
