Why should they not have lost? Just because ranked higher does not guarantee a win. On any given night a lower ranked team can beat a higher ranked team.

Also want to give a shout out to the new principal and athletic director who have made a concerted effort to get the student body involved whether it be an athletic event or a band competition. That gym was "electric" last night and the team responded to the energy.

 

C'mon man, let's not behave as if this isnt an upset. Pretty sure just about everyone except Highlands players assumed CCH would win. I will say I was a little cautious about the hype relative to CCH. Great win for Highlands and some early optimism for a competitive 9th region.

Never did I say it was not an ‘upset’ , but on any given night it can and does happen.

Both individuals put the students and athletes first. Let that resonate for a minute!

Based on pre-season rankings and results over past 8 years, it certainly would be considered an upset. Of course, I think we need to see both teams play several more games with the football season behind them to see if this was a BIG upset or if the teams are closer than expected. Based on my eye test last night, CovCath has clearly dropped a level from last year. Likewise, a healthy Ben Sisson has certainly elevated HHS a level or two this season. The Technical foul was a turning point in the game. But the difference in the game was HHS coaches making it top priority to run their offense through Ben in the 2nd half.

 

It's early and lots of games still to play, but if nothing else, it was fun just watching the excitement in the HHS student section. Could lead to some positive momentum for the early part of this season.

For those wondering, Michael Mayer will be playing basketball this year. Typically the football players get a week off, but he may take a little more time. When he gets back, CCH will have the horse who can bang inside with anybody.

Embarassing loss considering that basketball was largely CovCath's strong suit in the rivalry for the past many years.

Also Ironic that CovCath beat Highlands in football this year but not in basketball. What an interesting flip.

 

It doesnt look like this is CovCath's year in all honesty. I hope I'm wrong and that CovCath will step up when Mayer returns but until then I'm gonna hold off on my expectations.

Yes-not in a spot last night these boys were used too. Most of their JV undefeated team is seeing there first varsity action. And let credit go where it needs to go: Highlands is the best version of theirselves in probably a decade. I for one would love this rivalry come back, as it certainly has in football, albeit mostly lopsided games.
