Ill take Mayfield and I don't think they are underdogs in this one. not sure how that status is even earned this year being at #1 all year? CAL hasn't had any tougher schedule than Mayfield has.

Was he not on the field for the other 350 yards of offense that they have up. Somerset moved the ball up and down the field. Mayfield has scored 200 more points this season than Somerset. They will move the ball and put up points vs CAL.

The reemergence of Brandt Babin can only be a good thing for CAL. After missing a few weeks with an injury, he's had a couple of games to get his bearings back.

 

On the whole, CAL's defense has been outstanding this year. One suspect outing by the pass defense isn't enough for me to start questioning their defensive prowess all of a sudden. I'll take the Centurions in a close one, somewhere in the neighborhood of 28-24.

Yes.. the qaulity of team and the margin of victory are both impressive when factored in as a whole.

 

Calpreps agrees as well, they gave that a performance rating of 56.8

 

FWIW, CAL's 34-7 playoff win over DeSales is their highest rated win by Calpreps with a 53.3 performance rating.

Considering that Corbin is playing for a state title AND shut out Boyle County at their house and that Mayfield blew through Corbin...that was their best win I think.

I agree with these posts about the Mayfield win over Corbin. That game makes me believe Mayfield wins this game. The Mayfield offense versus the CAL defense is what this game is about. I think the Mayfield offense will win the battle. Mayfield offense is the top scoring offense in the entire state averaging 48 points a game. CAL defense is the #2 scoring defense in the state only allowing 6 points per game. Still, I think this game may be higher scoring than a lot of people are expecting. Mayfield's offense is explosive and their defense is not quite as good as what we usually see from Mayfield.

This ought to be one heck of a good game!! Both teams have explosive talent & I expect a very close game. I haven't been able to see Mayfield except one on film vs Caldwell Co. Their QB looks strong & Kent Trey-Matthews is a talented running back. But I think CAL's going to win the battle of the line of scrimmage. They are tough to move. And their defense is awfully strong. I'm going to say CAL 35 - Mayfield 21. I look forward to watching this one!

This game feels so close to me and to "echo" some of you the Corbin victory is the tiebreaker for me.

I have thought most of the season, while Mayfield can score points, that their tackling wasn't good enough to win a state title. We will find out tomorrow. I will be interested to see how Mayfield aligns defensively to contain Wright, while still keeping the running game in check. Plus the CAL QB has wheels so you can't leave him unattended. Looking forward to watching. I'm sure I will be hoarse after this one.

I think CAL listens to the hype and brings in too much confidence with likely one of the best players in the state and it bites them in the end.
