Bengals Fire DC Teryl Austin

Didn't think it was possible for an NFL team to have a defense as bad as the Bengals is. Shocked it took them this long to make a move to be honest.

Too little, too late.

The next 3 games are against teams with losing records. So far this season they've beaten who they were supposed to, hopefully that trend continues.

Just read Lewis is taking over has DC.

These two things had to be done. I said it in the game thread yesterday. A lot of people were saying it after the game. Marvin was questioned about Austin after the game. It had to be done and I think Marvin taking over as DC is the right move.

The Bengals defense has no edge to it. They aren't dictating anything. They sit back and let offenses dictate all the action. Even the defensive line that is the strength of this defense and should be able to make plays and apply pressure was getting worse each week.

Just a no brainer. They really only only had two options to fill in the role, Marvin or Haslett. I am not sure they will be much better. They can't tackle anyone or cover speed. Hopefully, they can at least slow teams down. Their next three games are against pretty average to poor offenses, so they should be better because of the competition they are playing.

Maybe Marvin can teach Hardy Nickerson how to tackle. Or maybe anyone on the defense. Or maybe get a pass rush going/bring pressure successfully.

Haslett is coaching the linebackers, probably the worst position group on this defense. No way I would promote him to DC. If you promote him to DC it sends mixed signals to the team. i.e. We have to get better, but let's promote the coach of the worst group on the team? I don't think that would have worked.

I'm not a big fan of Stephen A, but his rant about the Austin firing was pretty funny! He goes off about the fault being all Marvin and that Lewis now has another job and probably another paycheck. :lol2:

Fired the wrong coach.

Uh, I might agree there needed to be MORE fired but no way they fired the WRONG one, he HAD to go, defense was becoming a joke and I know some of you will holler injuries which is true but EVERYBODY had players out this time of year and the guys that have started all year are not making plays either so that excuse doesn’t hold water!! 96-24 against KC and NO and not force 1 punt EITHER game, NO WAY that should happen!! 34 pts at home to a team that Washington held to 3 yesterday?? INEXCUSABLE!!

So they fired the DC he is not on the field making tackles or throwing interceptions. I think it is time they fire everyone and rebuild.

They are just a hair better than the Bucs. Both could set new NFL records in points allowed in a season.
