I can only go by what I've seen of the offensive play calling. I've watched a majority of the games and the Browns offense looks like a HS offense to me. Baker is your future. Both Hue and Haley wouldn't have been here in 2-3 years anyway. The media was reporting that Baker's development was a big concern if the Browns kept either Jackson or Haley. Maybe he was asked his opinion and he gave it. I don't read anything more into that. I doubt Mayfield was lobbying for anyone's head on a platter.

I'm not happy with the decision being made halfway through the season, but not surprised. It's no coincidence that Hue was fired after a loss to Pittsburgh. I believe this makes the 6th Browns coach in a row to be fired after a loss to the Steelers. I thought maybe Todd Haley would be named interim coach and would go up against his old team this week, but scrap that idea. Not sure now who the interim coach would be. Gregg Williams, but then who runs the offense? I've also heard reports that Baker influenced the decision to be made now.

 

There's zero chance of that. No way a rookie even got a sideways glance regarding this discussion.

And the major factor was that front office and owners thought the team was regressing. Mayfield was not being developed like they thought he should so both men needed to go. Waiting to fire Hue would have more negative consequences than firing him now.

I don’t know about Big Game Bob, but I bet you anything Lincoln Reilly’s people will be one of the first phone calls John Dorsey makes. I think Reilly will hold out for a certain head coaching position in the state of Texas to open up though.

I miswrote, should have said I read reports that Baker may have influenced this decision. The report I read said that he did give an opinion about Hue's performance, but whether or not it really took to ownership/general management, I have no idea.

Mikey Brown is probably salivating now that he won't have to buy Hue out of Cleveland. He can get him on the cheap to replace Marvin, lol.

Mo Egger's afternoon talk show here in Cincinnati said Haley was doing whatever he wanted and playing whoever he wanted on offense and ignoring what Hue was telling him. With that happening, Hue apparently did nothing about it and let Haley keep doing whatever he wanted.

 

I don't know if Hue felt his hands were tied because it sounds like Haley was brought in against his wishes in the first place. However, if the head coach does not take control of the asylum, including his coaching staff, then that isn't much of a head coach. If all the above is true, I can see why they both were let go. The head coach can't run his own team. The offensive coordinator ignores the head coach. Why would anyone want either of them around?
