Most definitely not a “foot or two”. You piece the different angles together and make an educated, non-emotional decision. The evidence clearly points towards interference.

Mookie catches that ball if not for the fan. Nothing I've seen shows anything that would make me change the call on the field. Now if I'd have been the umpire I'd have called homerun and then let it be challenged. When it comes to a boundary play it would have to be obvious before I'd call interference. And I'm the biggest Red Sox fan on here.

Much like double plays aren’t assumed, I don’t think it can be assumed that Betts catches the ball with no fans in the vicinity. That being said, I believe that interference was the correct call, and that upholding the original call was also correct.

I still haven’t seen the video or pic that shows Betts glove was close from contact with the fan. The dude isn’t even looking at the ball when his glove closed. It’s entirely possible he mistimed his jump. Either way, just like in football it should always be ruled a fumble and let replay overturn it. No way that should have been called an out on the field. Stupid call. Astros got hosed.

It just looks to me like Mookie squeezed it shut himself. I don’t doubt that the presence of the fans caused him to squeeze it prematurely, but the fans hands don’t appear to cause it to shut. The fans hand hitting it wouldn’t cause it to close like that it would have distorted and moved the glove in an unnatural way. That glove closes perfectly as it would if the fans weren’t there. You can even see Mookie starting to squeeze the glove before the fans have a chance to touch it.

If you can't 100% tell from the video they tweeted that the contact with the fan closed his glove I'm not sure what to tell you. It is 100% beyond a doubt clear that's what happen.

There's really no debate the fans hand closed the glove. How you could even argue that you "see" Mookie closing his glove is an incredible idea. :lol2:

Unfortunately, the way it is nowadays with replay, that if there’s not the perfect angle, then some refuse to believe and even if there is, they still don’t want to see it. To me, it’s like an investigation. Look at all the angles, and piece it together and make the educated conclusion. The combination of the 4 or 5 angles watched several times over, show what most likely happened. That’s why it took replay officials several minutes to make their decision. Watch all the angles, analyze, and make a decision. Joe West surprisingly got it right and the MLB officials upheld his call.
