Again, the only debate here is whether Mookie was reaching over the wall or not. The video we have 100% confirms the contact with the glove and fan closes the glove.

 

As I said before IMO the call on the field has to stand either way because the replay does not show definitively confirm where Mookie's glove was when the contact was made.

Unfortunately, the way it is nowadays with replay, that if there’s not the perfect angle, then some refuse to believe and even if there is, they still don’t want to see it. To me, it’s like an investigation. Look at all the angles, and piece it together and make the educated conclusion. The combination of the 4 or 5 angles watched several times over, show what most likely happened. That’s why it took replay officials several minutes to make their decision. Watch all the angles, analyze, and make a decision. Joe West surprisingly got it right and the MLB officials upheld his call.

Except with replay it has to definitively show what happened before they are supposed to over turn it. Which is why I believe had he called it a HR they wouldn't have overturned it. Could be wrong though.

If you can't 100% tell from the video they tweeted that the contact with the fan closed his glove I'm not sure what to tell you. It is 100% beyond a doubt clear that's what happen.

Maybe I’m looking for the wrong thing :idunno: are you saying it comes from the fan directly behind Mookies glove? I don’t see how contact from behind a glove would cause a glove to close. The fan that hits it from side to the side of Mookies glove appears to hit it after the glove is closed.

If you’re talking about the guy in the orange then he 100% doesn’t touch it until it’s closed. I’ve watched it 1000 times either the guy in the blue or the guy in the white touched his glove slightly in a way that’s not visible on camera or Mookie closed it on his own.

The contact caused the glove to close. Mookie had a bead on that ball. The only question is where he was when they made contact. I don't think there's anything I can see on replay that would cause me to overturn what was called on the field. If it had been called a homer it should have remained a homer. Country Joe West, however, loves to interject himself into big situations. He called an out and I don't think you can find enough to overturn it. Just like the previous night when the Red Sox lost a double on Kemp's catch. Later replays show that it grazed the wall but the ones that they were looking at after it happened were not definitive. The call was upheld as it should have been. I guess that makes it even on replays lol.

I'm watching on a 17" monitor and it's beyond clear. The glove actually ends up hitting about 3 hands stacked together.

 

Now watching the rest of the video I think makes it almost clear he is in the field of play. If you stop it at the :14 mark (it's only :16 long) his arm is straight up and he is not touching the wall. As he comes down and his arm moves back over his head from the contact he ends up against the wall and his glove back over his head but has moved back very much, suggesting that it was in the field of play.

You can clearly see the guy in the white is bent over at the waist, over the wall. Then he’s reaching right with his arm extended over the wall. The other two guys are reached out even further. You can also see Mookie isn’t even touching the wall yet. I never thought I’d say this, but Joe West got the call right.

When watching the play last night, the fan bending over had no bearing on the play at all. He is further away than the angle shows. Thus the issue. Mookie probably catches the ball, but the fan that his glove touched did not intentionally make a move for the ball. He was just trying to catch it where he was.

 

I can understand either way, so you have to go with the call on the field. One team was going to be hosed.
