4th Playoff Spot

Outside of the clear top 3 teams right now (Bama, Ohio State, and Clemson), who is the most likely team to make that 4th playoff spot.

Obviously it’s not a guarantee that Bama, Ohio State, and Clemson will make it but it’s pretty clear they are heavy favorites compared to the rest of the field which is why I excluded them from the conversation. Feel free to disagree with me on that.

Hard to say with Michigan right now with Ohio State, Michigan State and Penn State left on their schedule. They will have to thump both Michigan State and Penn State well if they want the spot.

 

After the Ball State performance and then getting a scare from record-ruiner Pitt, Notre Dame needs to wow with the rest of its season if they want the spot.

 

The Texas loss to Maryland and close victories over Tulsa, Baylor and Kansas State knock them out of contention, if you ask me.

 

Georgia needs to get through Florida and Kentucky, but then the 20 point loss to LSU still hurts them badly from beating out LSU, assuming LSU doesn't get beaten by any teams other than Bama.

For the sake of conversation, if ND loses a game I believe they are done.

 

- Texas or Oklahoma win the Big 12 with 1 loss

- LSU loses to Bama but only has 2 losse

- Georgia loses to Bama in SEC champ game and they have 2 losses.

 

Who gets in? It has to be the Big 12 team doesn’t it?

I still say ND gets in with this scenario. No two loss team is getting in over a one loss Notre Dame team. Even if ND loses a game, they'd have three Top 25 wins, which would be more than Oklahoma. Texas would have one more Top 25 win than ND, but they also lost to Maryland, who at the end of the year probably won't have a winning record.

I still say ND gets in with this scenario. No two loss team is getting in over a one loss Notre Dame team. Even if ND loses a game, they'd have three Top 25 wins, which would be more than Oklahoma. Texas would have one more Top 25 win than ND, but they also lost to Maryland, who at the end of the year probably won't have a winning record.

It wouldn’t be unprecedented for Texas to get in with a loss to a mediocre team. That VT team that Ohio State lost to in 2014 ended up 6-6 I believe. Now the committee changes every year so who knows how much they would use that loss against Texas. They would have 2 wins over Oklahoma and a win over West Virginia. I’m hoping for this kind of chaos this year.

I just don’t see how a 1 loss conference champ Clemson gets left out. Unless you’re saying that loss will come in the champ game. If ND has a loss, Clemson gets in over them. After Georgia’s loss to LSU the only chance the SEC has at 2 teams is if Georgia knocks off an undefeated Bama team in the conference champ game and that would be hard to fathom at this point.

The PAC 12 could potentially have Oregon, but their non conference was Ball State, Portland State, and Bowling Green. So if Clemson and ND have one loss, the Big 10 champ is in, the SEC champ is in. Who would be the other two teams?

Undefeated ND is in no matter what. It would come down to a debate most likely between ND and Texas/ Oklahoma. I just don’t see how Texas/ Oklahoma could win that debate.

SEC won't get two in this year. They were able to last year only because of your Bucks laying that egg in Iowa. UGA looks above average at best. I wouldn't be surprised if they go down to Florida. Now the sleeper in all of this is Michigan. If they run the table; does the BIG get 2 teams in?

No way Bama gets in 2 years in a row without winning the conference. The college football world would explode. Same may go for the Buckeyes, they may have gotten their mulligan as well.
