October 16, 20187 yr Author Someone please tell me why UCF should even be discussed about being included in the four team playoffs. Some people enjoy blowouts. That’s the only logical explanation.
October 16, 20187 yr Some people enjoy blowouts. That's why we like Big 10 teams getting in.
October 16, 20187 yr RE: UCF. For them to have a chance - aside from teams ahead of them losing - they must win out by an average of 30 points. No nail-biters against teams like Memphis. They have two opportunities against ranked competition they must annihilate. I am not saying they deserve in if they do the above, but based upon how they have performed thus far, what they have done.... at least how they have looked doing it, is not enough.
October 16, 20187 yr Author That's why we like Big 10 teams getting in. Hey I was pretty giddy myself when Sparty got boat raced by Bama.
October 16, 20187 yr Author For UCF to have a shot it would take having no more than three P5 teams with 2 losses or less. Everyone in the country except teams 1-3 would have to have three losses before UCF would get in the playoff. 3 teams from 1 conference is more likely than UCF making the playoffs. It’s not going to happen.
October 16, 20187 yr Author Bama has to lose twice to miss the playoffs. Agreed. Honestly if one of those losses came in a game Tua was injured the committee would probably overlook it.
October 17, 20187 yr Bama has to lose twice to miss the playoffs. Not necessarily. As mentioned above, undefeated ND, Clemson and tOSU and Bama doesn't win the SEC, they are out. Of course, that's not going to happen, but that is a currently viable scenario where a 1 loss Bama doesn't make it.
October 17, 20187 yr Author Let’s chill out on predicting multiple undefeated teams. We’ve had 3 total undefeated teams in the 4 years of the playoff. Upsets are going to happen.
October 17, 20187 yr SEC won't get two in this year. They were able to last year only because of your Bucks laying that egg in Iowa. UGA looks above average at best. I wouldn't be surprised if they go down to Florida. Now the sleeper in all of this is Michigan. If they run the table; does the BIG get 2 teams in? I think there are 2 ways SEC gets 2 teams in. 1 - LSU beats Bama in a close game at Baton Rouge. Bama's only loss and they don't go to SEC Championship game. Unless tOSU, Clemson and ND are undefeated, I think 1 loss Bama gets in (along w/ SEC Champ who obviously gets in). 2 - Bama loses SEC Champ game to UGa. That's Bama's only loss. 1 loss Bama gets in (unless scenario above).

Not saying it would actually happen, but putting in a 2 loss team over an undefeated G5 squad would be a very bad look for college football. At that point, you are basically saying G5 are all playing for best New Year's Day bowl position from Spring Practice. Whether it actually happens is irrelevant so long as Cinderella believes she might actually get to go to the Ball. Once Cinderella knows she can never go, the dream is shattered.

Maybe I’m heartless but I don’t care about Cinderella getting an invite to the ball. I care about good games. There are a lot of power 5 teams that if they have 2 losses at the end of the season deserve to be in over UCF. I’m heartless, I know. But I don’t want to give whoever ends up being the 1 seed a bye in the first round by getting to play UCF. (Unless it’s Ohio State of course, then bring on UCF). But if you don’t think the college football world would spin on its head if Alabama or Ohio State gets to play UCF in the semis while a team like Notre Dame, LSU, Oklahoma, Michigan, Texas, etc. gets left out, you are sadly mistaken.
October 17, 20187 yr Author @nkufan23 who do you think will get that 4th playoff spot since you put “other” in the poll?

October 17, 20187 yr Author As they used to say on SVP & Russilo, "College football happens." Yep. Also of those 3 teams that were undefeated going into the playoffs, (2014 FSU, 2015 Clemson, 2016 Alabama) none of them won the title. We’re getting way ahead of ourselves here if we say any of the top teams are done if they lose a game.
