Cooper's coaching is horrible. Not to say that made the difference but anybody who was there could see that game plan being picked apart. If I could say it was a game plan cause it just looks the same every week. Nobody at any level of football plays that defense for a reason.

Game plans are going to look bad when you play against a vastly superior team. Cooper has had a lot of success in their short existence, and no one complained about their coaching when they were making the state finals just a few years ago. There isn't a school in this area that wouldn't take Borchers as their head coach. To say they are horrible because a still young and developing team gets drilled by one of the top 2 or 3 teams in the state (and some would argue that CCH is the best team in the state right now) is really silly.

I just call it how I see it. Bad coaching is bad coaching. Playing your safeties underneath and giving up the deep pass is idiotic no good coach does that. That's not being young that's just dumb. Even last week against NCC the kids won that game dispite how badly that game was called

Cooper in its brief history has been known more for its defense. Which in fact for a four of five year stretch was considered one of the top defenses in not just NKY but the state. Which they were running this same defense that I saw them run this year at the game I went to.

 

I dont remember seeing you on here a few years ago. But I have been for a long time and you can just go back a couple of years ago on here. And most people considered Borchers one of the best in NKY and in the state when there was a thread talking about top coaches in the state. So it's not like he all of a sudden forgot how to coach.

 

It's very simple from the couple games I seen the last few years. Is that Cooper is young, and in cases like against Covcath just playing a better team than them. Which makes game plans look non existent because the other team is just that good.

 

Hopefully the players at Cooper are buying into what their coaches are teaching them. And not buying into what people in the stands may think or post like this. I would be willing to bet players who played and started for him a few years ago, have a much different opinion than the one you just shared.

 

I grew up in a program that was a bad program at that time. So I know how toxic post like this can be, because if players start listening to post like this or people in the stands. Then that usually has a much more negative effect on the program. People on the outside of programs always have many opinions and those opinions led to a team divided and hurt the team more. It wasn't until my senior year when us seniors decide to ignore all those outside voices and listened only to our coaches that things started to change for the better.

 

It seems like the Cooper faithful has a lot of passion on this site and want to see them do well. Which is a great thing. I would just caution against things like this, because if you want to see the program do well. Things said like this can be toxic to a program. Hopefully the players and especially the many young players they have on its team do block things like this out. Because as long as they buy in and listen, I think people will see things turn for the better as this season goes on and in future seasons.

So what scheme are they playing and what is their defensive philosophy? And what scheme should they be using? I’m guessing you haven’t sat in on their defensive game plan meetings.

College coaches recruit players that fit into their scheme. Cooper is a public school which means u have to adjust your scheme to fit the players your getting.

 

As for adjusting to your players. Every year since Cooper has been around. I have been to a couple games a year and seen Cooper change to fit their players. During their state runner up year, while running that horrible defense as you said. They did multiple formations, from under center, to some spread. They were a top defense in the state. To the year they made the state semi finals two years later running that same defense and a top defense in the state They were primarily a under center running team with play action. The year they lost in the regional championship to Simon Kenton on the last play of the game while running the same defense and a top defense in the state. They did multiple formations. The following year they were completely spread and passed the ball the majority of the time.

 

So two things stick out to me. One obviously this defense is better and more effective than you realized and two they have adjusted to their players. You can look at this year. I noticed how they mostly out of gun to fit their young talented qb. When it you go back 3 years ago they were a primarily under the center running team.

 

Just because you may not like or understand a defense doesnt mean it's not a good one. For many years people said the coach at Cooper did more with less. Because they would beat and frustrate teams with more talent. The biggest thing was the players bought in and did what they were asked in that defense. Which I do know about that defense and it's very rule based but very good. The key is for players to do what their jobs are required to do. I probably can guarantee you most of these big plays you refer to that they have given up, have came on misassignments and guys not doing what their job is in that defense. Which I'm sure gets shown during film. With it being a young team it sometimes just takes time and experience for the players to get it right. That's true for all young teams in sports. The key is continuing to take the coaching and learning from those mistakes.

 

So as I said in that other post. It does seem like you care about the success of the Cooper program and passionate about it. Nothing wrong with that. However I know from experience if players start listening to outside stuff like this. That it can be toxic for the program, and not lead to you or anyone in the program being happy because it creates division and not success. So hopefully the players block out stuff like this and listen to the coaching. Their coach has not forgot how to coach. If they buy in and block everything like this out. They will start seeing progress this year and years to come.
