Bishop Brossart 24 Holmes 18

Featured Replies

Congrats Mustangs. I believe the score was 24-18 though.

Final score was 24-18.

Holmes had the ball with a chance to tie and win but were unable to press the red zone.

The game really picked up in the second half with both teams making big plays.

Bezold is a load for the Mustangs.

Holmes lost their senior starting quarterback after the first scrimmage game. James Walker could be lost for the season with a knee injury.

Quantez Calloway is going to develop into a nice player with time and is only a sophomore. His brother Tayquan will also be a really nice player with time. Both broke off long touchdown runs.

Will be fun to watch the Bulldogs grow because they are really young.

Believe Brossart also handled Holmes last season in Covington.

Nate Bezold is a warrior. Only picked up 73 yards on 12 carries (1 TD) which won't get him a lot of headlines, but these were HARD EARNED yards.

As stated the Mustangs rolled merrily along, opening a 14-0 lead when Holmes broke a big play and subsequent touchdown. From that point the score was 14-6, 21-6, 21-12, 24-12, and 24-18.

As indicated the Bulldogs wouldn't go away, and their QB/RB duo of sophomores Quantez and Tayquan Calloway are going to be major impact players for the Dawgs.

How about some luv for my man Bryan Duffy from Brossart who connected on this 4th, 5th, and 6th consecutive PAT, and threw in a 25 yard Field Goal for good measure. Duffy hit on a school record five field-goals last year.

This year he is on lone from the Brossart Soccer Team on Friday nights. He hadn't kiced at uprights coming into this season until hitting three straight vs Dayton a week ago.

Was Tez playing quarterback? That young man was the most talented player I've seen in my 10 years coaching in the NKYFL. Ridiculous combination of all the characteristics you'd want to see in a football player. Glad to see he's doing so well.

Is he starting at QB for the Dogs? What about the young man who was a tailback on the Bengal Tigers team that won the NKYFL Junior Grand Championship in 2014...Timmy Brown maybe? He playing for the Dogs? That was an incredible team.

Holmes played without their senior quarterback James Walker.

Sophomore Quantez Calloway (pictured below) started in his place and did a creditable job.

Both he and Tayquan Calloway ran for "big gain" touchdowns of 55 and 63 yards.

Also pictured is our Nathan Bezold, who carried the pack more than a few times last night for big gains.Ftbl-18-Hlms-NateBezoldPowerRun-BGP.jpg

It’s surprising how bad Holmes is.

I'm guessing that conclusion is drawn because they have lost on back to back years to Class 1A Brossart and are a 4A school/program.

Given time I think they will become competitive in 4A.

They listed 44 players on their roster, 19 freshmen.

They started a sophomore quarterback and running-back.

While they might be judged presently as "bad", I do think they have potential for the future.
