For the second year in a row, Mayfield opened the season with a win over highly regarded Union City (TN). Running back Kent Trey Matthews had a huge game for the Cards, rushing for 194 yards and TDs. Hopkinsville had one of the more disappointing opening games of the young season, a 49-17 shellacking at the hands of South Warren. But anyone sleeping on the Tigers might get bit. This team has the talent, they just have to weather the storms of this early season schedule. Mayfield won last year's meeting, 49-20.

Mayfield by 14.

Hoptown isn't ready. Still going to be a good team by the end of the season, but Mayfield is just more disciplined at this point for the Tigers.

I would agree about the discipline, but after watching Hoptown's last game against South Warren, they definitely have talent out there. They just have to start gelling. MF would be wise not to sleep on this team or they will lose.

This is the type of game I would like to see Mayfield make a statement in.

Hopkinsville is a good team but not a great team.

The top of 2A appears to be ripe with great teams. I would like to see Mayfield win this by 17+ points

Mayfield will win but it will be close

It will be interesting to see how Hoptown responds after getting beat by South Warren.

Although Mayfields defense is very good, I don't think they are the same caliber as South WArrens defense. So they should be able to make a few more plays.

Should be a close game. I still think Mayfield wins at home though.

That QB Bland for Hoptown has a BIG ARM for a High Schooler. Once he gets his chemistry right with the transfer Dunn, they may be the most productive QB/WR combo in the state.

I agree about the big arm. He can sling it. I don't know about being the most productive tandem in the state.

Give me the Cardinals.

MF 35-21. Kent Trey Matthews was very impressive in Week 1. He will be hard to stop. I wasn't impressed with MF defense. They looked confused and disoriented at times, as well as fatigued.

First game of the season along with new faces, that's to to be expected. I haven't heard anyone mention how Mayfield was platooning their receiving core last Friday night. Stinston would hit or miss a guy on a deep ball and MF would bring in a fresh reciever. A couple guys I talked to Friday were saying they are wanting to play an eight reciever rotation. I think that will pay dividends down the road. Reminds me of the state championship team that won against Hazard.
