Top Players in 1A?

Featured Replies

Who are some of top players in Class 1A in 2018? What newcomer will make his appearance in the stat sheets in 1A?

I’m bias. But Tad Fisher of the Bracken County Polar Bears is a very talented, naturally gifted RB. Makes plays on his own a lot of times.

May not be a D1 back but he’s fast, resilient and has great vision.

Tad Fisher 2

There’s not a lot of talk about Logan Castleman from Beechwood in terms of a RB stud but holy cow he looked good against Moore. With as good as Beechwood’s line is this year he can eclipse what James Davis was able to do last year and maybe be talked about as the best player in 1A. Oh and did I mention he is a stud Saftey as well. Awesome kid and awesome family. Can’t wait to watch him this year!!!

I'll throw Castleman's running mate, junior fullback Josh Derry in the mix here. A physical and versatile fullback/middle linebacker who will emerge as one of the top juniors in Northern Kentucky this season. As a back, he's a punishing blocker/first down machine who displayed soft capable hands out of the backfield during the Tigers playoff run last year. From this linebacker spot, well...he's a thumper who controls the middle of the field. Reminds me a great deal of CovCath legend Mike Woolf.

He and Castleman will be the perfect "thunder and lightning" duo this season. Should be fun to watch.

Junior running back Matthew Barber from Paris definitely has to be one of the top players. If Adam Renfro is playing for Paris then keep an eye on him as well

Statistically in order from their 2017 performance on khsaa.org, here are the top returning 1A players:

QB

Tyler McDonald, Bishop Brossart

Hunter Boone, Crittenden County

Bailey Blair, Hazard

Arren Hash, Campbellsville

RB

Tad Fisher, Bracken County

Dalton Cook, Lynn Camp

Matthew Barber, Paris

Devon Nesbitt, Crittenden County

WR

Ethan Dossett, Crittenden County

Eli Mattingly, Williamsburg

DaJuan Davis, Frankfort

Ian Vanlandingham, Ludlow

Jevon Bush, Frankfort

Malachi Corley, Campbellsville

Frankfort has 3 guys that are very special.

DaJuan Davis WR/RB he is that break away guy. He can make plays when needed.

Jevon Bush WR/CB - best set hands on the team has break away speed.

Jon Tillman QB/DE/OLB - Jon has gotten some D1 looks he is 6’6 strong arm. Hard runner

Dalton Adkins, Sr, from Raceland should be considered in this group. If he played anywhere else in the state, he would be getting more attention than he does here in Northeastern KY.

In addition to above mentioned Junior RB Matthew Barber from Paris, keep an eye on Seniors, OL/DL Michael Jackson and OL/LB Jackson Livengood from Paris.

The kid shined in the state championship. I was extremely impressed with him.

He worked very hard this offseason to get stronger and healthy. He played all season last year with a torn labrum and a completely detached bicep tendon. He never said a word to me about it until midway through the playoffs last year. Tough kid.

Makes me like the kid even more. Seemed to play the game the right way too. No trash talking. No show-boating.

Tad is a heck of a RB.Over 1000 yards rushing that past two years. Does he have any college offers yet?

Malichi Corley, a 6'1 180 pound WR/FS from Campbellsville High School is a junior this season. Duke flew him in to Durham this summer to put him through individual workouts before their skill camp... Clocked at 4.5, he has tremendous potential.
