2018 NKY Youth Football

Featured Replies

Same as every last weekend in July.

And I say the same thing every year...it’s too early. High schools aren’t even done acclimation yet. It’s not safe to run kids out to play a game (even if it is just a scrimmage) after 9 or 10 days of practice (at most).

The weather is perfect for football not to hot!

Fort Thomas is being recognized this year as a member of the NKYFL. They will pay league fees and have voting rights within the league. They will however have a modified schedule as both sides are still working together to align teams / rules better for scheduling.

For this season Fort Thomas will play a full slate of NKYFL games each week. (Starters, midget youth, midgets, junior youth, juniors). They will just rotate weekly which FTJFL plays in that slot. At season end FTJFL will hold their own inner league playoff, their champion will be eligible to compete in the NKYFL post season. Their starts will also compete in the starter bowl (Tiger Bowl).

Overall the progress and partnership between both leagues has been great these last couple years. Growing pains like anything else. But like adding Boone & Cooper to the NKYFL it is working itself out. Which I think is great for NKY football as a whole.

And thanks for everything you guys do to make things work out for everyone. In the End, it's about the Kids playing the Game(s).

The weather is great. But great weather doesn’t make make little kids playing full contact games after a few days of practice right.

10 days of practice.

10 days of practice.

At most. Last Friday was a mess weather wise, so many probably didnt practice. High schools aren’t even having contact yet. Even if you got all ten days in, it’s not enough.

Honestly, what's the rush ? In general, these "kids" maybe had 6 practices, at best. How many of these teams/coaches have had any real time to evaluate, slot, and establish any kind of generic game-plan. Heck, at best they should play flag football or touch like the 7 on 7 format {helmets only} used in high school. What are they really trying to prove anyway. It's preseason ..... right.

NKY Bandits, NKY Bengals and NKY Hawkeyes all scrimmage at Winton Woods against some Cincinnati area teams.

Red Devils, Spartans, Bandits and South Kenton all looked impressive in their scrimmages. South Kenton Juniors scored 5 times on Walton. I don't think Walton moved the ball 10 yards.

Given the amount of practice time all four teams have had, I'm not really surprised. I just hope that the other coaches {RD, SP, Bandits, and S.K.} "seriously" shuffled their kids in, and out of the game, as running-up a score isn't really that important, as this early stage of the season.

Every game I watched kids where subbed a bunch.

While I believe the NKYFL start date is a little early (I would prefer August 1), the number of practices and acclimation days that every NKYFL team is required to have is in strict accordance with USA Football guidelines. Practice days, what is worn, i.e. helmets, shoulder pads or "full pads" and amount of air, thud and "live" contact time is all set out by USA Football. The game and practice requirements have come light years even from ten years ago. But, you will never hear that reported by the "worldwide leader" or any other channel with an agenda for that matter.

Still, many teams played on back to back days this past weekend. After having maybe 8 days of practice. And likely following this weekend up with 4 straight days of practice. All before the higher levels of football have even started to have contact.

Thanks for the explanation. How many teams will FTJYF have at each age division? Also, will the games vs the rotating FTJYF teams count on the traditional league member’s records and be factored when considering standings and playoff seeds?

I’m not positive how many teams they wound up with at each level. From the numbers I’ve been given it looks like they are at 1 starter team, 3 Midget teams, 4 junior teams. Obviously those will rotate into the Nkyfl schedule, so they can play a full slate each weekend (starter, Midget, m youth, junior, j youth).

Their regular season games will not count for records, as they will be sending a different team each week it will be treated as a non divisional game. In the Nkyfl playoffs, their two league winners ( midgets & juniors) will go into the Nkyfl playoff as the automatic #5 seed this season.
