Public School Closures - Teacher Protest

Yes, one of the two jobs. Sales Quota 3 million

How about an owner of a small company hoping that he gets an order so he does not have to layoff a dozen employees and affect their lives? Not diminishing what a teacher does, but most professionals have pressure that others would struggle to deal with while they handle theirs in their own manner.

The comments remind me of the athlete “who works harder than anyone else”. LOL

For the record, I could not be a teacher, I’d snap with the way I handle kids!!

If my heart fails on me, I’d rather have a surgeon work on me than a teacher? Different skill sets.

And how do people become heart surgeons?? Don’t they have to be taught by someone? At some point in time, all successful people have had teachers who inspired them and helped them become who they are today. Teachers are vital to our society, and why we need to show them a little more respect, and not be so dismissive to what they do.

Home schooled?

Man I dont know the answer. I just know that when you have more going out that coming in and every side is yelling and screaming the desired outcome wont be good.

I feel for you brother, more than you know.

Also I agree if I were the gov. I wouldn’t sign this law.

He may agree with it, but the way it was handled opens it up to be challenged and probably lose in court.

I’ll have to say it will be hard to compromise with teachers after this week and the previous rhetoric.

Home schooled?

If you were home schooled someone still taught you. That person was your teacher. While college professors are slightly different they are still teachers.

Everyone had to be be taught by someone. I don’t think people fully realize how much teachers are raising kids throughout their careers. Life skills and lessons that parents should be teaching are being taught by teachers. People don’t like to hear this but teachers know more things about a parents’ kid at times than the parents. Teachers see and spend more time with these kids than their parents.

Teaching is among the highest burnout rate professions. Up there with doctors, nurses, snd social workers.

Home schooled?

And the curriculum used for home schooling was created by teachers. No one would be where they are today without teachers.

How about the pressure of knowing a third of your kids might not eat when they go home? How about the pressure of knowing home is using and selling drugs. How about the pressure of knowing a kid is being abused either at home or by other students? How about the pressure of knowing what you’re being told to teach doesn’t work for your kids but it’s either teach it that way or get fired? How about being held accountable for things you have limited control over? How about the pressure of getting someone to perform but yet getting little support to create the environment needed?

For that business owner it sucks and that is pressure. The business owner is still the owner and has control/final say. They have power over how things work.

I believe so. When my mother in law retired from teaching, she got a five figure check for the sick days she had accumulated.

Its crazy @UKMustangFan. I know an Administrator that received a check for nearly $100,000 at retirement. Plus receives a fat pension.

Private sector, you use them or lose them.

Yet we want to pretend that a surgeon could do a teachers job, or you could do a teachers job. Teaching requires expert knowledge and a specific skillset as well.

I love teachers and what they do. But i'm sorry the exaggeration needs to stop.

This whole fiasco has never been about pension reform. It has always been about weakening public education and other public entities. Professionals with the same amount of education as teachers make much more on average. Teachers don't get into teaching for the pay, they get into it because they love working with children. To do so however they give up a lot earnings potential to be have a good and fruitful retirement. With what has recently happened that is no longer attainable. I will be advising my children and any other child who aks for my advise to not go into public service.

Again the false comparisons need to stop. The only skill set or job in the private sector to compare to is private school teachers. On average public school teachers make more.

I agree. Private sector more difficult than teaching? That’s a hilarious notion.

I don't know what you do for a living. So maybe teaching is harder than your job.

Home schooled?

There's a home school for heart surgeons?

What was that admin making a year!? That school board needs to be removed.

That’s criminal.

If you take the payout you get 30% before taxes. A teacher making the state average of 57k a year (extremely skewed by Fayette and Jefferson) with 100 accrued sick days over 27 years would get a check of about 9k pre tax.

IMO, this benefit was never intended to reward teachers it’s just a carrot to keep them in the classroom so districts won’t have to spend money on subs.

There's a home school for heart surgeons?

:lol2:

You can be anything you want to be.
