NKU Carson Williams

Featured Replies

The talent around Carson has changed drastically. His role would have continued to diminish. This isn't a surprise at all. Carson is at his ceiling now.

This was my thought, too. NKU's second "round" of D1 recruiting (if that makes sense) was much better than their first round. Williams falls in the middle - good enough to play D1, not good enough to play how NKU is now playing.

He knows NKU is about to be in a big transition with Brannen going to Xavier once the Mack deal is final at Louisville. Smart kid.

Brannen won't get the X job. That job will go to Steele.

Kid Avg. 12 points on 60% from the field and 5.6 rebounds a game as a sophomore, he is plenty good enough to still play for NKU. Someone needs to ask him the reason he is leaving NKU. To imply he is not good enough to play now based on how NKU is playing is just plain silly.

Williams 7-19 on threes this year 37%. Only Sharpe and Garnett shot a better percentage.

Drew McDonald shot 34% on threes.

McDonald obviously shot a LOT more threes, but these stats beg the question ... should Williams have shot more threes and maybe McDonald shot less?

I watched him as well and simply didn't see it.

Strong post moves against mid-major D1 talent.

He has a knowledge of how to play in the post because that’s basically all he ever did growing up. He has definitely developed into more than that IMO.

This is absurd. Williams is more than good enough to play at NKU. He may not fit into their system anymore, but it has nothing to do with Carson’s talent level that much is for sure.

That tells me Williams has great shot selection. He will never be a knockdown shooter, but you have to respect his ability to knock it down if you leave him open. Even more of a reason why I think he could be successful playing the 3 in college. He can spread the floor with his athleticism and is able to knock down a 3 if you leave him open. I’m really struggling to see what everyone is down on him about.

That would be a real shame, nothing against GC but Carson is a legit D1 player and to leave and go to an NAIA school would be a dissapointment.

Georgetown is the best non D1 program in the state. They would’ve taken Bellarmine apart this season.

Carson is still a legit D1 player.

You literally said exactly what I said. I never said he wasn't a D1 player. I said he wasn't good enough to play how NKU is playing - thus, their system.

The realistic aspect to this is that NKU is getting better. Having McDonald and Williams on the court hinders them athletically. So they need to be more athletic at the 4. Carson isn’t going to take a spot on the bench, so he’s odd man out. He will be fine. Sit a year and attempt another D1. Go to Bellarmine. Go to Georgetown. Any of those choices will work out for him. Shouldn’t be lost on anyone that the new coach at Kentucky Wesleyan has deep northern Kentucky ties.

What was NKU's record after benching Carson? Either 1-3 or 1-4. I'm not sure the decision to bench him was a good one. I think Carson fell out of favor with Brannen, but I do not know why.

Is this for real?

It’s not that he isn’t good enough to play in their system. The way you said it came off as a slight against Carson’s ability.

I agree.
