For your 2 examples of upsets I'll give you 10 examples of the better team won. Upsets happen and teams play a good game and catch a team on a bad day sometimes. It happens . But the question was asked who do you think wins and why and I answered. Guess it was only asked if I answered Simon. I love opinion polls and questions.

I've seen each team and just feel Ryle is better. I agree I think this is a 5-7 pt game. Would I be shocked if Simon won, no. When the spread is this close with 2 good teams it can go either way. Ryle has 2 very high end players and a nice supporting cast. Simons high end player is still coming off of an acl surgery and I'm sure not 100% as of yet, but they have some experience from last year playing in this event. This game is kind of like Murray and Mercer I would take Mercer because I think they are better but will not be shocked at all if Murray wins. 2 good very competitive games.

I feel like you undervaluing the contributions made by Jones, Stamper and Harmeyer. One could make the argument SK has more pieces than Ryle. SK is the more balanced team. Vickers has also stepped up her play.

This may be a really good point. Does this game "feel" a whole lot different to Ryle? They've played multiple games in this arena already and probably are more equipped to remain calm and stick to their game.

Ryle is the favorite coming into this game but there coaching staff has a huge delima.

 

Do you press and run the risk of foul trouble? I’m not sure Ryle can replace shearer if she is in foul trouble and with niece running point sk is usually very tough to turnover. Ryle tends to front load their press and sk is very good at stretching the floor and can and will get some easy baskets. If Ryle sends shearer to preassure the ball then she may be proan to some quick fouls.

 

Ryles head coach has proven to make some strategic mistakes during games so can they handle a big game?

 

Sk is more seasoned with state tourney experience so I don’t see them being rattled and probably playing a little looser given they are the underdog. Coaches have been there and done that

Contain shearer and stay in front of her

Familiarity with NKU may help them to early start

My thoughts are these...when Ally went down, pretty much everyone wrote SK off..think about it, you hardly ever saw any posts about them on BGP almost the entire season..there was no media coverage...you hardly ever saw a box score unless it was when they played a Campbell...but all this team did is keep playing and working. There have been alot of great points made on this thread both ways. The thing that sticks out in my mind is whether this game feels any different to Ryle's players..to me, that's a big key to this game. Of SK'S starting 5, all have been on this stage( Sweet 16) at least once, a couple are making their 3rd trip to the show, and this is the 2nd time for half of the roster. Because of AAU and KYP I know Schwartz and Scherr have been on a similar stage, so I don't think it affects them; I don't know many of the other players backgrounds on Ryle's team, and given the youth, I wonder if it does affect them. I look for this to be one of the best games of the 1st round. And as that old adage goes, you can throw the 1st 2 games out the window..ask anyone who watched SK V Franklin last year in this same tourney..

Both teams seem to be playing their best basketball of the season right now.

I think Ryle by 10. They are a more athletic team and I think that will be the key along with foul trouble. I think Ryle can go far if they stay out of foul trouble.

Ryle by 10 as well. Pull away with free throws at the end. They have four legit scoring threats. It is really hard to keep all of them locked down. The college court is also a big advantage to Ryle. Plus, I know its the Sweet 16, but Schwartz and Scherr have both played, and are comfortable, on the largest stages.

 

The x-factor to me is Niece. Great to see her back. Ryle hasn't played SK with her in the lineup and it sounds like every game she is more and more comfortable.

With Niece back it takes pressure off the other girls. Jones is on fire from 3 point range and Harmeyer is doing her thing. I won't be surprised if SK wins by 10 or more.

Will She press and risk foul trouble?.

 

Will she have her players crash the boards and risk foul trouble?

 

Can she use her bench? If no, and she wins the. That’s a lot of wear and tear for a hard run

 

These are but a few questions she hasn’t solved as evident by her first two regional games
