The Old Rivalry - Male vs. Manual

Featured Replies

Maybe the Crimsons sneak in and win this one to really mess up the standings in the district.

I looked at it and it would still end up, I think head to head counts still does it not?

Male

Thanks guys for the insight. This city needs to recognize the contributions of all the players, coaches, administrators etc. over the years for the role that these games played in the history of the local community. Just think how many Thanksgiving dinners were planned around these games. Maybe the CJ will do a special section on the history of the game.

Having been involved with both sides of this Rivalry. It is indeed one of the most intense in this areas. It is a shame that those in the media have chosen to focus their attention on the T-X rivalry when the Male-Manual game is the grandaddy of them all in Louisville. Male and Manual both came upon hard times in athletics and this caused the game to lessen in intensity. It took Manual a little longer to get back on track but I would say that in the past six years they have more than held their own with Male. It would be nice for the media to jump back on the bandwagon where this game is concerned . I think Louisville could handle TWO mega-games a year. This is also the 150th year anniversary for Male High. There is a big celebration planned with alumni from across the country being invited for school tours, dinners,Hall of Fame Banquets and reunions.

I looked at it and it would still end up, I think head to head counts still does it not?

I guess Red will rest his starters for the playoffs....

Not likely.

The C-J reported this morning that Male has already clinched the 1st seed in the playoffs with their win over St X Friday.

Is this correct?

No. if you have a three way tie (manual beats Male) Then you go to non Dristrict wins. Out of state Teams dont count. Thus Male has wins over ballard, Hoptown,Senca, Those teams wins are what counts. I think they have combined for 12 or so wins. Manual has Warren central, eastern, meade County. I think those teams have combined for 12 or so wins. So If Manual wins and Their three teams win, then it would go ST X, Manual, Male, PRP. If male wins Then it Goes Male, St X, manual, PRP. So the game does matter. only having 9 games hurt male.

So the CJ got it wrong?

I think we're on the same page, but I don't think games against out of state opponents are tossed out when determining points in the tiebreaker system. More than likely a moot point, since New Albany only has 5 wins to date and Male will trail far behind St X with its wins over Bowling Green, Lex Cath, and Highlands if a three-way tie occurs.

Not to worry. The potential embarrassment of having to escort the Barrel to "the enemy" should provide enough motivation for a Male win this Friday.

No the CJ didn't get it wrong. They are assuming that Male will beat Manual.

I would look up the out of state stuff again. Out of state teams do not count towards Playoff points.

No. They said Male clinched the #1 seed by beating St X.

My fault. I guess the CJ hasn't considered all the scenarios if Male were to lose.

Unless it's a new rule this season, out of state teams DO count towards playoff points. I remember in the past it counting, plus I looked up last year's tie-breaker point totals still on the KHSAA website and several teams counted out of state wins!

Just a little FYI on this series:

My grandfather played for Male back in the 30's. I still have scrapboook with a C-J article about the game. If you think T vs. X is big today, then consider this: In (I believe) 1935 the ENTIRE FRONT PAGE (not the Sports page, the FRONT page) was devoted to this game. A team photo of Male and a mugshot of their coach was above the fold and the same for Manual below the fold. This was so much bigger than even any college rivalry at the time.

Also, Male 35, Manual 13...for my grandpa!

No. They said Male clinched the #1 seed by beating St X.

H,

According to an E-mail reply I just got back from the CJ High School Sports Reporter who wrote the article in today's paper, the KHSAA is the one who got it wrong. He agreed with me (See my post #36 in this thread).

He said, "The KHSAA made the same mistake I did because they have Male listed as the district winner in the standings on their Web site". He new about the the tie breaker rule and completely forgot about it. He is planning on printing a retraction in tomorrow's CJ Edition.

Thus he confirmed that IF Manual beats Male it would move X to the top as the #1 seed based on stength of schedule. Sorry to all my Male friends out their, but all I can say is:

:dancingpa GO RAMS!:dancingpa

I didn't think the Tigers had a dog (or a ram) in this fight, but I guess I'm wrong. Under the circumstances "Go Rams"
