I am not sure I can explain the end of the game, so I will leave it to someone else. The last three TDs were scored for Owensboro without their offense ever taking the field.

Senior had two blocks or Henderson had two of the worst punts I have ever seen about five feet off the ground returned around the line for TDs. I could not tell what happened. Also, our QB threw a pick at the end that was returned for a TD. All that happened in the last 7 minutes of the game or so. I am to ______ to write about it anymore. It was 12-6 Henderson before that happened.

I was predicting a Henderson County win tonight and an Owensboro win in the second round of the playoffs. I might have to reconsider now!

I've thought Owens Sr was the top 4a rgn 1 team for awhile now..They sure did nothing tonight to change my mind,,Good win Devils...

If the old saying that offense fills seats, and defense wins championships then OHS should be on their way to a district and hopefully a region championship. OHS came out first scoring on a 3 yard run by Nick Hall, but missed the extra point making it 6-0 Devils. That lead held up through intermission.

 

After halftime the light came on for Henderson County. After Henderson's D backed OHS up the Colonels took over in great field position. Hendo QB Jerimiah Cousey hooked up with Quinn West for a 37 yard pass down to the 3. Then Antoinne Lightfoot ran it in to make it 7-6 Colonels. Then Hendos D stiffened again and Henderson got good field position and Jesse Gilliam made a 33 yard field goal to put Hendo up 10-6. After a penalty on the kickoff OHS was backed inside the 10 and Hendo brought the house sacking Austin Moss in the end zone to make it 12-6.

 

Going into the fourth quarter Hendo had to punt. Then OHS came to life. OHS blocked Hendo's punt and Tyler Acton scooped it up and ran it back 50 yards for the TD to put OHS up 13-12. OHS put together a good drive after stopping Hendo again, and if not for a holding penalty inside the 10 would have scored anothe TD. OHS settled for a Joseph Mckinley FG from 32 yards out to make it 16-12 OHS. That was hugh because it forced Hendo to score a TD to beat the Red Devils. Basically it forced Hendo to pass. OHS D stiffened again and Hendo shanked the punt. Neil Johnston scooped it up and raced 35 yards for the TD making it 23-12.

 

This may be the point where OHS defensive end Tim Therber took over. It could have been the possesion before but I can't remember. Jeremiah Cousey went back to pass and never saw Therber coming and it was lights out. Kind of like one of those "jacked up" plays on espn. It might have been the next play or the play after then he sacked him again. Hendo still had to pass and Neil Johnston picked it off, and tight roped the sideline and gallaped 65 yards for the interception return. Then to top it off after the kickoff, Tim Therber pushed the Hendo tackle all the way in the backfield, threw him off and sacked Cousey again to end the game.

 

It was a great win for OHS. I dont think we brought our 'A' game through 3 quarters, but you gotta give Henderson their props. They have a stingy D, and 2 solid RB's in the backfield. I think Lightfoot needs more touches personally. Cousey's not a great passer, but his 37 yard strike to West proved he can pass when needed. Lost in all this was OHS RB Nick Hall. The gritty OHS rb amassed 140 yards on 29 carries. The ran so hard tonight.

 

I look for both these teams to meet up again in 3 weeks at Rash Stadium to see who gets to take on Warren Central for the Region championship.

Henderson can beat those guys. Owensboro's defense is great, but Henderson seemed to move the ball a bit better than Owensboro. The score is completely misleading. Without those two punts, Henderson does not start forcing the pass and get the INT. -- Owensboro has been preparing for the Cols since the end of last season.

Stop Nick Hall and you stop OHS. Moss threw the ball twice that I can remember and one was picked off. Every other play was Hall left, Hall right, Hall up the middle. Do not look at his size and dismiss him. The hardest running 5'6"-160 pounds you will ever see. Henderson had all of the momentum plus the lead then OHS blocked the punt and never looked back. Neither offense will win against a tough defense but either defense can win the game.

Can't take anything away from Oboro. But hey, were circled on everyones program. Poor special teams play has horible at times this season for Hendo. Poor snaps, like the one resulting in Oboro's go ahead TD is a case in point. The punter was only 10yds behind center due to erractice snapping. This aided in the punt being blocked. Both teams are close to equal & the difference in this game was poor special team play & penalties by Hendo. Several nice gains called back. Hendo quite capable of beating Oboro but cannot make the mistakes they did.

I don't know the exact #'s but Owensboro has blocked quite a few punts and kicks this year. I know they had one against Mater Dei and at least 2 vs. Catholic. Maybe you guys should consider giving some credit to the great special teams play from Owensboro.
