I don't believe he went to St Anthony. He grew up on the Eastside of Newport and was friends with my Dad who also lived on same street (Park Ave maybe) as grade schoolers. I think the A might stand for the old St Anne's that used to sit up on the hill and was torn down for the Newport Pavillion development.

 

Cowens went to St. Anthony with my dad, who ended up moving to Lookout Heights (now Fort Wright) and graduated from Cov Cath in 1966.

Floor looks awesome. The basketball at the free throw line was extremely tacky. I agree to make the color of the Thorougbreds, on the baseline, yellow. Also sweet mural. Also we must also kiss the ring of the diocese which we can all agree is an absolute joke.

How about the moisture issues? I have no idea how a private school that cost's that much money to go to can't fix the biggest issue of all. Games get cancelled because of it every year. #MakesZeroSense

They can put in a vented floor system so the wood floor won't be directly glued to the concrete floor any longer, and thereby the condensation issues will be SIGNIFICANTLY less prevalent, if not resolved entirely.

Nahh, I haven't done school construction in 6 or 7 years at this point. I just know I had my mind thoroughly blown the first time I did build one and found out how much science goes into the design of what I would have otherwise assumed was just wood laid on concrete. ...and the perspective rendering in my post above is a rendering of a basic wood athletic floor system. They can get WAY more sophisticated than that.

 

I'm not involved or in the know at all, but I can't imagine that they aren't intending on putting in a system like that. I'd probably guess that's essentially the purpose of the new floor.

I would think that the issue of condensation has more to do with the effectiveness of the HVAC system moreso than the construction of the floor itself. No????

It's generally a product of both. Modern construction techniques almost always insulate the perimeter of building slabs to prevent exactly this from happening. When New Cath's school was designed, proper building insulation was hardly in practice.

 

Regardless, as I understand it, New Cath had their HVAC system renovated either last year or the year before.

He grew up on Nelson Place, and his twin brothers were on my 1st baseball team. Quite a thrill having the reigning NBA MVP at your game when you're 9 years old.

I was shocked the first time I went to HHS after the gym remodel, the visitors side of stands have no walk way. Meaning, there is a walk way, but both teams chairs sit in that walk way and its extremely congested and very difficult to walk out of the gym during a game, especially when they are playing a rival.

I’m in Memphis this weekend watching Jr. Play. One of the twins, Tom, lives in town. I reached out to him and he came over to watch Jr. Play. His older brother Gary played at CBU. I asked Tom about the court and he said he first heard about it the other day from a friend. He called Dave and asked him how much he owed him LOL
