St. Louis 4 New York 2

ST. LOUIS -- Maligned for months, and believed to be in deep trouble just 24 hours earlier, the Cardinals now stand on the verge of the National League pennant. Six superb innings from Jeff Weaver and home runs from Albert Pujols and Chris Duncan helped send St. Louis to a 4-2 win over the Mets at Busch Stadium on Tuesday night in Game 5 of the National League Championship Series, giving the Cardinals a three-games-to-two lead. Game 6 is set for Wednesday night, and though it's at Shea Stadium, the Cards have ace Chris Carpenter slated to start that game.

Huge win for St. Louis. The Cards have gotten lucky and their pitchers got hot at the right time.

I agree. Weaver has been huge in the post season. It seems like the two rain delays have been to St. Louis's advantage.

Great win by St. Louis and Weaver has definitely brought his A game to the postseason. He has pitched really well especially in the first inning of tonights game when he had 2 runners on. Definitely has a higher composure than what I thought he did. I'm proud of him though, he's been through a lot this season.

Mets offense couldn't do anything... Man...

Hey, you say that like it's a bad thing!

It's a horrible thing!!!!!!!

Huge win for the Cards. I get the feeling the Mets will step it up vs Carpenter once again...

Another good start by Jeff Weaver...:p

24 hours earlier, weren't all of the pundits saying that the delay helped Glavine and the Mets?!

Gotta love "The Experts."

Excellent win by the Cardinals but no easy task, finishing the Mets off at Shea. Advancing runners to scoring position, getting some 2 out hits and the usual pitching/defense, will be needed to get the job done.

I caught on ESPN after the game, that Rolen and Larussa hadn't spoken, since he sat Rolen down for Spiezio....

I have never been a Larussa fan, and like the Cards just a hair more than the Mets. With that being said, they are both in my bottom five favorite teams in the MLB. Unless there is more than a benching going on, which we will never know, Rolen is being very rediculous. Playoffs are do or die. When a player becomes the hottest hitter known to the post-season, one should just want the team to have the best chance to win the whole dang thing. It is not like Rolen would never get to play anywhere if Spiezio became Larussa's favorite. I can see frustration and dissappointment, but a man in the business of professional baseball should suck it up at this time of the year.

I've not heard any public comments from Rolen and thus why I think, he's handling it in a professional manner and keeping what goes on in the clubhouse, in the clubhouse.

A player and manager don't have to like each other, for each to be effective at their craft but respect, must be given. If the report was accurate, seems both Rolen and Larussa, are doing just that by their silence....:thumb:

Any chance this means Rolen will be available in the offseason?

Makes one wonder and not sure of his trade clause in his contract.

If Rolen does becomes available, either his choice or the Cardinals, I can see interest in him but his $12.4mil contract, will limit his options.
