Tuition Athletes in NKY

I seem to remember a standout lineman from Beechwood about 8-10 years ago who made the trip into Ft. Mitchell every day from Cincinnati. I agree kids from other states should not be allowed to play here. It just seems a little like the pot calling the kettle black to hear it coming from Beechwood.

How could I forget the big redhead. He could dominate a game by himself. As far as coming across the river, I can't say for sure but I thought they lived in Ft Mitchell before he graduated. Besides, this is a completely different issue. He had a parent who worked at the school.

We could go on and on w/this topic and not get anywhere. I have read some great comments, opinions and remarks. Although I don't agree w/all of them I respect all of them. It has been great debating this topic but I am done and moving on to the next one, whatever it might be. Until next time, good luck to everyone's favorite team.

I've corrected you once already. It did not pass .

It may be on Wilson Sears' agenda for future meetings but as of today, its not there.

Let me correct the correction. It did pass. As of now, the Kentucky Board of Education has not approved the change (but has not rejected it). The out of state restrictions DID pass the membership, but have not yet been implemented by the Kentucky Board of Education and whether or not they will be implemented is a matter of conjecture right now.

For those in the know, in what form did the measure pass? And what are your feelings about how the BOE will ultimately rule?

Beechwood still wins!!

Bad subject oldguy because I know too well about this. As for the county money, the county does not have to release that money as is the case in the Campbell County School System. If that money is not released the tuition is then doubled. Campbell Co will not release this state money, ask the Menetry family about that one.

cshs81, I agree, no child should be educated in a school not of their choice but pay the price to go somewhere else. If you can't afford it, too bad, stay where you are. Like you said, if you aren't happy find something else. Should I be penalized because I have a job and can afford the full tuition. Why can't that kid be put on the work program? I personally would not be picking up trash, cleaning classrooms or gyms so my kid could attend the catholic school.

The private schools have always had the adv. They can draw from anywhere. The state of KY in general is screwed up when it comes to edu. Think about this one: if I live in Kenton Co I can send my kid to any of the three schools as long as I don't require bus service, OPEN enrollment, Boone and Campbell are not like that you have to live in that certain school district. Now, how messed up is that.

Bottom line, I think you should be able to send your kid where ever you want free of charge if you live in that schools boundaries. If you live outside the boundaries then there is a fee but a fee that is the same for all schools, public or private. The private schools should abide by all state rules and be given state funding also just like the public schools. This way there are no recruiting violations, no work programs and everyone should be happy. If a student athlete would transfer after their freshman yr, they sit for one full yr in all extr-curricular activities. Far fetched I know but wouldn't this make things easier on everyone involved?

Everyone is bringing up cost, this is not the issue comparing BHS tuition to anyone else's. You made the decision to send your kids the private school and that is great. I don't doubt they will get a wonderful edu. The out of state thing is a sore subject. Do you know our kids can't go to OH and play any more, it is called "the Moeller rule!" So, why should we allow kids from OH to play in KY?

Reading the last 3 sentences of the last paragraph raises the question: Doesn't the QB for New Richmond High School live in Taylor Mill?

Is his Dad the coach of New Richmond? Perhaps they make exceptions if a parent works in the school district.

Yes his Dad is a coach at New Richmond and I think an exception is made under that circumstance.

Until it officially passes, it hasn't passed. Didn't the public/private pass the the first hurdle as well only to get shot down?

It very well might pass. As of today....

I have heard from people in Pike County that students that live outside of Pikeville Ind. district have to pay tuition to go to school there. There are benefit in the education part of it from state test results.

Have a real problem with this. Why should an exception be made if the student parent works for the school (or is even the coach)? Rules are rules..... It bugs me to no end that employees of school district get special treatment for their children, while parents who don't work for the school district can't get the same exceptions no matter what! Case in point, Boone County, where employees of the School District can send their children to any school of their choice in the district, but the average citizens child can't go to any school, but the one in his/her district.....

You won't get any arguments from me on that. I've seen it at my school. What usually happens there is the parent/teacher keeps their child (son) at our school in elementary, then sends said child (son) to some football powerhouse once they're high school aged. I don't like it, but can't do anything about it.

First, what does this thread have to with playing football? Don't we have a forum for this type of thing? Lastly, what is the tuition to attend Beechwood? What does it cost to educate a student at Beechwood?

I have no problem with a parent who is a teacher wanting to keep their child at the same school they teach and or coach at. Logistically, it makes sense, when you think about travel to/from school, not to mention being able to keep an eye on your kid. I DO have a problem with those who teach at one school, say Boone Co., and send their kid to Ryle because Ryle is a football powerhouse(hypothetically of course). It's not like we pay our educators enough anyhow, so this little perk is one of very few in the business, and should be allowed regardless.
